Let's treat this interaction as a learning experience ... What you are reading to the left of my comment is a textbook approach to determining the sector in which you would like to work. It does not reflect real-world realities. Rather, the optimal approach to finding the best sector for you is to a) surround yourself with a mentor and/or trusted advisors from diverse work backgrounds, b) assess your skills and interests, c) survey your local market for leading companies and look internationally if so inclined, and d) dip your foot in the water with a mid-market company with a visionary CEO (one who actively promotes partnerships as a key revenue driver).

Have you studied old cases of AI solutions in your industry? This is gold and treasure. Your partners and clients would love to hear about it! All trendy things were tested during successful and unsuccessful projects 10 years ago. It is logical to spend some time to conduct your own research here.

Hone your soft skills. Stop selling yourself and start being a resource. Trust is #1, and being the resource, not just about you or your product, will carry that relationship through many stages of your long career.

In a reality where 70%+ of global tech industry's revenue is influenced by partners, it's crucial to remember that partners are not our FTEs - they operate independently, with their own strategies, goals, and agendas. Fostering proactive and impactful collaborations requires mastering the skill of influence without formal authority. It's the key to aligning mutual interests and driving partnerships toward shared success.

Upskilling is so easy given the number of channels that one has access to. Identify the right institution where your priorities align and either attend a workshop or get certified. In partnerships role you need to be able clearly articulate ?what’s in it for them“. Partnership can be successful only if there are mutual benefits for both sides. The other very important skill is to build trust. You have to be the best advocate for your partner in your organization and convince your counterpart in the partner organization to be the best advocate for your company.

Partnership roles are often part of the sales organization and responsible for indirect partner led sales. So, it's good to have some sales experience which will give you good experience in presenting the value proposition, distribution channels, contracts, support and customer success and the partner ecosystem.

Here are three essentials: Network enthusiastically – it's all about who you know. Make connections with industry pros, find a mentor, and get involved. Stay sharp and informed – not just by following the latest trends and news, but also by diving into books and tuning into insightful podcasts.

Try to understand the nomenclature. There are a lot of words in channel and partnerships that just aren't used in other areas. I once built a dictionary of partnership acronyms for a business I was in, so that the teams would understand what people were referring to. I'd think Asher's course would reference the names and acronyms, but if not. It's much needed.

Think about the partnership projects you've seen that inspire you. Who created them? Which of their qualities really made the project work? Who was the audience for the partnership? How was that project resonant with the audience? Was there anything surprising about how the parts came together? How did this collaboration bring value to the brands/partners involved? Study these projects carefully, and you'll start to see some common themes emerge, pay attention to those!
