How can you negotiate your salary and benefits without references?

One thing I found useful, when your cover letter State these Portfolio of your works, the employer has the idea of what you can do. You need to just convince the employer during the negotiation that you actual achieved what is stated in your Portfolio of works. You need to sound convincing.

One thing I’ve found helpful in the past when searching for a new role is being able to reference my recommendations. When a customer or former colleague is willing to post publicly about your work results with them, it is impactful when a recruiter or hiring manager is considering you for a role.

One of the easiest ways to showcase your talents and abilities is to leverage LinkedIn's recommendation service. I'm not talking about asking for recommendations from your peers or managers, those are often biased and don't prove you know what you're doing. The recommendations you need to focus on are the end-users, your customers, your clients, and anyone else that is being impacted by the work you're accomplishing. I view this in tandem with product reviews. If a recruiter/sourcer doesn't have any recommendations from the people they've hired, how do we know they have hired anyone? And if they have, how was the experience for the end-users?

When discussing salary and benefits without references, research industry standards, highlight your skills and achievements, express enthusiasm for the role, and be open to compromise. Clearly communicate your expectations and focus on the value you bring to the position.

I agreed with this point, before you go into any negotiation, know the market rate for the position you are applying for. You will be in better position to negotiate for the desire salary. Do not be rigid, keep a range in mind and state the range and I am sure this will help.

There will rarely be a situation where one needs to negotiate a salary and benefits without any references. If you are in a position to negotiate anything, you certainly have some credentials and experience below your belt. If you do, you should have no trouble coming up with at least one reference... even if it is peers you have worked with previously. If you can not come up with so much as one personal or professional reference, you are not in a position to be negotiating. If you have been offered a job with such a bleak portfolio, I would accept it graciously and consider the negotiations after you have proven yourself to the company... let's say, a year down the road. Accept their proposal and thank the gods lol
