It is important to always schedule time to meet with your team - both one on one and together as a group. Making sure that you are completely engaged in the conversation by turning off the phone and computer so you are providing clear direction. Then listening to their acknowledgement of the direction and asking for their feedback on the task. Then schedule time to meet with them again to follow up on the task - was the direction clear? What was difficult about the task? What was easy? What could we do better? Then utilize the feedback when planning for the next task.
In my experience round table discussions where the team can bring ideas, suggestions, and provide valuable feedback in an open forum is extremely valuable and make sure to take notes. Bring in some food for the team, it doesn’t have extravagant, it can be sandwiches to bagels to coffee and donuts. When finishing the round table make sure to repeat back the key points that were brought up, this helps to show that you listened.
In my past experience3 it's very important to communicate clearly to your team. It keeps everyone connected, and informed. As Team Leader, I'll be ready to answer questions for clarification purposes. You want the team all onboard working together. Open communication also empowers your team to use their thoughts, and ideas to make change.

To identify areas of development in your team on your own and then to bring the training to the team as a whole knowing that not all members will need the same level of development will help to provide those who need it the most comfort in not being singled out. From there the others can drop off and keep the extra help to those who need it by incorporating a task or a project which that training is vital to their success...
Identify those that want to move up and take on additional responsibilities and show your them new tasks that you regularly do. Don’t necessarily push the task off on them but rather develop them in order for them to advance and have them work independently on those tasks on occasion, eventually they can be added to their area of responsibility as they grow.
Training and development are essential in all aspects of work. In law enforcement, I searched for training classes regularly for my officers and for myself. Keeping current on new legislation, with new technology, and relearning skills that perish keeps officers fresh and helps them teach the new officers coming aboard.

As a sales leader, it is your responsibility to first determine each member's areas of strength and growth. It will be easier for you to recognize and evaluate these elements and to concentrate on the areas where each member of your team needs to develop if you conduct regular fieldwork with them. Their knowledge and confidence will increase as a result of the training and skill development. It is important to do regular TSDR! TSDR - Tell, Show, Drill and Review. Tell- Tell them how. Show - Show them how to do it. Drill - Show you in a classroom training re-enactment or actual in the field what they learn in your training. Review- review and regularly assess their developments.

We all come from different backgrounds and have different skills. My workers work side by side with each other with the same purpose of getting the job done efficiently and quick. You can do this by demonstrating the values, attitudes, and skills you expect from them, such as professionalism, integrity, enthusiasm, and customer focus. You also need to show them that you care about them as individuals, not just as employees, and that you are approachable, supportive, and respectful. You need to motivate them with a clear and compelling vision, and to align their goals with the store's mission and strategy. You need to challenge them to learn, grow, and excel, and to provide them with the guidance, feedback, and recognition they need to succeed.
In loving what you do, you tend to excel within your role. When you do it consistently and well, then you should be noticed by others. When your team believes "you would too", you have won their trust. Leaders are the mentors of an organization that have no qualms about performing duties every team member is expected to do. Barring limitations of course. Every leader is watched by seniors in the organization and those they are leading. Given enough time, one will notice a leader when they see one. Consistency, fairness, courage, professionalism and competency are going to be the main traits which will earn the greatest respect. Remember, always do what is right, even when no one is watching.
Don’t be a say-er, be a do-er. Bosses sit behind a desk and “bark” orders while leaders are “in the trenches” with their team, they are shoulder to shoulder with their team. Make it a priority to do work with them and even for them. When you ask if they need anything mean it.

Get to know your team members. Understand each person's individual ticks. What motivated them? What is the best way to approach situations with this particular person? Understanding the psychological profile of the individual is key to getting the best out of them. No one person is alike so cookie cutter blanket approaches to problems won't get you the best work out of the group. Listen, learn and respect your team, show them their opinions matter. Earn their trust and respect and they will follow you. At the end of the day, we are all human and we want to be heard and understood. If you can get to that point you'll have no issues motivating them and getting the best work out of your coworkers.
Your Team is just that YOUR Team! And YOU are a part of the Team. A excellence leader will never ask their Team to do something they have not or are not willing to do themselves. It is really just that simple. It all goes to Team morale and what having a manager how they feel, who has their back and knows what they are going through on a daily basis. Retail can be a kin to war and the troopers need a General they can trust. They may know it is going to be a battle, but the boss will be there for us with knowledge, support, and appreciation for our job well done. The greatest accomplishment of any leader is having members of their Team develop into peers under their guidance.
In my experience, Trust and Transparency are the key pillars for a team to work effectively. A conducive environment to be created among the team members to Trust on each other's strengths/ competencies and duplication of work is avoided. Similarly, a Transparent system should be followed to manage the communication and performance. This will enable the individuals to give their best in the team so that their as well as team's objectives are met.
Something I have found to be effective is to be a leader who jumps in and leads by example. Don’t be afraid to get my hands dirty. This has helped to show the teams I have had the privilege of working with that I don’t ask them to do anything I wouldn’t do myself. In turn, the team is eager to do whatever it takes to get a task completed knowing we pull the plow together. Also leaning on others for ideas and perspectives helps all to feel they contribute to its entirety.
As a leader you may need to get to the root causes addressing and foster growth, training, and add new teammates with the same vision. The team must also be committed.
When the team's efforts have led to successful outcomes, be sure to celebrate those successes and trumpet them across the organization. In many cases, doing so will instill great gratification in the team members and motivate others to achieve similar levels of success.
I have found to build a team you must have conflict. You have to trust each other, and be vulnerable. If you can do this you will have great open honest communication and the team will soar! Most teams are stifled by passive aggression, and ego usually by the leader. The team will never dare to speak the truth if the leader won’t be vulnerable and speak honestly. So all those suppressed feelings come out in back biting and competition with in the team. If you want a highly effective team have conflict and speak the truth. As a leader own your mistakes and your team will see that and open up with you and the rest of the team.
