If you're taking advantage of service-centric tooling in AWS or Azure monitoring data are captured and can be mined for information during troubleshooting, or with the addition of instrumentation to the codebase, can capture more complex info. The services themselves can be defined to be robust inclusive restarts, parallelism etc. Leveraging messaging you can not only offload the instrumentation to a collector service but in addition use that service for error escalation. Again most of these facilities are baked into monitoring tools. Simple stats can also be published offline for simple checks - very simple checks! Use of tooling like dbt more sophisticated tests can be defined. With loosely coupled services you can have eyes on 24/7
