When I transitioned from one career to another a huge amount of learning took place initially from the extended team taking the time to share their previous experiences with me. Building great relationships allowed me to spend a lot of time asking 'who, what, when, where, why!" questions as I developed my knowledge in a new field, as my depth of understanding grew and I applied my new knowledge having mentors who could facilitate crucial meetings or introduction or model how to get business objectives across the line effectively was hugely beneficial + I brought new ideas and perspectives to the team and by allowing me the ability to express those, it made it a lot easier for me to transition into the new roles and areas of the business.

There are two things that I usually do to help people transition in to new roles. First, I ask questions instead of providing them with solutions. Arriving at the solution gives them a sense of accomplishment, which helps them grow. Second, I identify areas where they can fail safely without hurting their self belief. Employees value the trust and confidence displayed in their abilities.

When I joined my current EdTech company coming from standard consumer tech companies, what was really important for me was understanding HOW I learn. There will undoubtedly be a learning curve in any new role you join, particularly if the industry is different. Simply reading through onboarding materials and listening in on meetings may put you at risk for information paralysis. However, once you can better understand how YOU learn best (reading, listening, participating, note taking) and how to ask your best questions, taking in new information is going to be much more palatable.

Example like fishing and flying kite activities, holding to tight, the thread may not withstand the force. Let loose too much, the fish/kite may be gone. Moderation is the key, adjust accordingly.

I created a template to mentor my teachers which was quite helpful for me to monitor them. At the same time, the mentee also felt very comfortable to approach me when they felt they need hand holding or a bit of guidance. 1. Create 2. Agree 3. Implement 4. Check 5. Feedback 6. Outcome. A particular project was chosen and all these 6 principles were followed by me and my mentee. We created a project. Agree to what we would like to achieve. Implement after making all the preparations. Check if it is working. If not sit for a brainstorming. We repeated the process until we get 80% of the desired outcome and celebrated.
