How can you measure and improve transportation safety?

Transportation safety data such as frequency of collisions and types of incidents should be collected and considered/analyzed at different times of day and year. Variations in light and weather conditions may influence driver, pedestrian and cyclist awareness of pavement markings, signage and speed of travel.

They pull from sources such as the City Emergency Management system and police reports. The media often reports collisions that result critical injuries, which often result in death.

In my experience, Implementing a robust incident tracking system to record accidents, near misses, and other safety-related incidents could help to analyze the occurrences and uncover patterns and root causes, enabling the development of targeted interventions and preventive measures.

Road safety is one of the most common causes of accidents and deaths. Therefore, those in charge of this sector must implement many strict control requirements. - We start by installing GPS devices (If the vehicles belong to a company) - We must classify the vehicles if they are (heavy transport - light transport - buses - private). - Giving priority to buses...the licenses must be valid. Data collection depends upon safety on the project Is proactive or reactive. Im case of proactive approach, data required is feasibility and DPR reports. In case of reactive approach, data required is crash details and As built drawings

I have no solutions to stop these people, reforming the justice system and getting people to behave differently has been historically difficult. However you can change the landscape, the road design to make sure people regardless of whether they follow the laws or not so they don't kill anyone. We can do this, one intersection, one section of a road at a time, starting with the roads with most amount of deaths and serious injuries. Education and enforcement are the least effective, planning and engineering always work.

With regards to safety management; establish key performance indicators (KPIs) related to transportation safety, such as accident rates, compliance with safety regulations, and response times in emergencies. Regularly monitor these metrics and set achievable goals to drive continuous improvement in safety performance.

Talk to union Safety Reps who do the job, that way the management team can plan better to avoid accidents, making the staff work happier also, therefore happier staff will be less likely to want to leave, and also make the management team more aware of problems when they start to arise.

The concept of Vision Zero is that everyone who dies after a collision is a somebody to somebody. When people with this goal ask an audience "how many people dying in the road is acceptable?" and some arbitrary numbers will be given. When people ask "how many members of your immediate family or your friends are you okay with getting hit by a car?" The number is always Zero. For me this concept is personal as in 2013, my sister Emelia Hung, who was 24 years old at the time died trying to cross the street. My grandma Wai Lan Chang in 2009 also got struck trying to cross the street, though she survived because she landed in grass, but never walked the same. Traffic deaths are the leading cause of death for children. This is unacceptable.
