I would say before define metrics you MUST define clear objectives: what you aim to achieve with the architectural changes. This could be improved performance, reduced latency, enhanced scalability, or any other specific goal. Once the goals are defined you can establish the metrics you need. A simple example could be the following: Goal: "Improve the Response Time of the Web Application" Then in this case metrics will be response time (average, at peak, scalability, etc)

An undervalued aspect in architecture (software, security, enterprise, etc) is the documentation. In case of a change (independently by the outcome): document all the changes made and their impact on the system. This documentation serves as a valuable resource for future reference and analysis. Another consideration is probably to review the system architecture on a cyclic basis, what was done 2 years ago is probably not the best approach anymore (especially in the era of cloud). Lastly, cost consideration: evaluate the cost implications of the architectural changes. This includes both the immediate costs associated with the changes and any long-term cost savings or increases.
