In my experience, making sure you’re as animated over the phone as you are in person is pro move. Approaching the call in the same way you would an in person interview can help with inflection and enthusiasm in your voice. Moving your hands, animated facial expressions, and even standing as you talk helps your personality shine through over the phone. Additionally, I have found that emulating a interviewers speech patterns, tone and terms can help them to identify with you. For Example: If the interviewer is relaxed, joking and more personal take the same approach. In most cases interviewer’s are looking for candidates similar to themselves. Following this approach will help the interviewer identify more easily with you.

I do not agree that it is necessary to dress professionally for a phone interview. It is essential to be genuine and real in an interview. On a phone interview, wear whatever clothes allow you to best express your true self.

Prepara tu espacio muy bien. Utiliza una habitación donde tengas privacidad si es posible, que esté ordenada y limpia, verifica tu conexión a internet y 15 minutos antes revisa si la plataforma (zoom, meets, etc) está bien configurada y funcionando. Obviamente no podemos causar una primera impresión 2 veces entonces te recomiendo estar presentable y vestido acorde a la empresa (si es startup más informal, si es corporate talvez más formal no hay una respuesta exacta). Utiliza un bloc de notas o tu ordenador y ten listas las preguntas que quieres hacerle a la persona.

En una entrevista van a buscar 4 evidencias: 1) Tus habilidades para el puesto 2) Tus valores y forma de comportarte 3) Tu motivación Intrínseca 4) Tus resultados Hay varias técnicas que se utilizan para obtener estos datos, normalmente se usa el método de preguntas comportamentales enfocadas al pasado y situacionales al presente, el famoso método S.T.A.R de entrevistas por competencias. (Situación, Tarea, Acción y resultado), y se desarrolló aún más con técnicas como el Pivote. Un ejemplo: “cuéntame una vez que hayas tenido que entregar un proyecto con poco tiempo y pocos recursos, qué hiciste, cómo lo lograste, etc”

Somos personas tratando con personas, siempre que hagas follow up se amable y personaliza el mensaje basándote en las interacciones que hayas tenido con esa persona. Pregunta en la entrevista que tiempos están manejando y cuando podrías recibir noticias, de esta manera manejas expectativas ya que cada proceso y compa?ía es distinta. Después de la entrevista puedes enviar o no un mensaje de agradecimiento en unas 24 horas, y luego puedes hacer follow up con la información que te hayan brindado en una o 2 semanas. Si no responden mantén la calma y vuelve a escribir 3 días después. Si luego de esto no responden, no insistas, puede ser que ya te estén demostrando lo poco organizados que son o su forma de llevar las cosas.
