My advise is to align the tools with the reporting requirements. The idea is to have less work at staff level during the reporting period by providing more data flexibility and accuracy. The project can automate the job by maximizing on ERP. ANy internal control system can be built based on ERPs, because they are providing enough space for data entry, data storage, data analysis and reporting using various methodologies and considering all the requirements. THe team should therefore take a particular look at the system to put in place or, perform a system re engineering to automate more processes.

Technology can be your friend in saving time, preventing duplication of efforts, communicating up to date information, and collecting data. Use technology you are familiar with and don't be afraid to learn a new system to up your skills here to help you track grant data, funding, and more. Putting in some time up front to learn a technology system can pay off down the line in time and data analysis.
