It's really difficult find something that works in any browser and on any device, always give more options to fallback for when people can't use one system.

Take one of your best and recent project, and do a case study showing the process followed to achieve the final result; Right from the conceptualization phase down to the final output. Show hand sketches if necessary. Then tell a story with the project in the case study. Additionally, for those who are clients, you might want to incorporate VR/AR functionality to make the end audience interact with your project. This approach can range from either being online base interactivity, to getting a .exe file and share with the stakeholders to interact with it.(Enscape has this feature also). This simply means, the end user run the .exe file and it opens your scene and they have tips on how to navigate your scene.

Most if not almost all of my online portfolio work when dealing with virtual worlds or web3 based environments involves heavily optimized scenes and baked lighting throughout. The lower the filesize and light count, the better it will run! Plus it can be really impressive to showcase something and then explain that the entire scene they are walking around in is less than 40mb in size despite being console quality.

While in a static image, you can afford the maximum resolution or the maximum quality, generally, in the engines you can use online, you will have to adapt to the possibilities available. They will hardly be higher than those of a mid-range mobile phone. So what do you think you should show? Don't forget to do material or geometry swap, different lighting scenarios, simulations etc. The more you add the better, however don't overdo it. It is good to demonstrate general awareness but don't sell yourself as c the 3D ninja who can do everything...

Having your own website is great. However, I like to have a few. Plus, put your stuff out on sites like ArtStation and apps like Instagram. If you create virtual worlds, link them. Be sure to write a little description for each (or have AI do it). LOL You may also want to included interactive elements like embedding sketchfab into your site. I'll also make short videos of virtual world walk-throughs and post them on youtube.

Promoting your portfolio is not only about showcasing your skills but also about sharing your personal growth. In addition to sharing your work on social media platforms and participating in contests or industry events, it's worth considering sharing your story. Publishing short articles where you describe not only the creative process but also the challenges you've faced can be a valuable way to build connections with your audience. Discussing motivation, the courage to share content, self-critique, and maintaining an open heart in challenging situations can help you connect on a deeper level with your viewers. It can also assist others in understanding that behind every piece of art lies not only talent but also authenticity and heart.

To stand out in promoting your portfolio you've to understand that the client or the employer will appreciate someone who is easily accessible. Having your own webpage portfolio not only makes your look portfolio look beautiful but you as an individual also imprint an image of a professional.

Artwork is so subjective, that more than not employers are looking at the process more often than the content. Good skills are hard to find. Great skills even more so. Showcase your skills. Build your own website! Pick pieces that show your skillset. :)

Don't cramp your portfolio with ALL of your works. Choose the most recent and best pieces. Nobody cares about the amazing things you created 20 years ago when you were just 5-7 years old. People want to see what you've created recently and what you're capable of NOW. Also the shorter, the sweeter. If you can showcase all your best RECENT works in your portfolio (be it interactive or not) in less than 1 minute duration, that's the best rule of thumb to follow.

For 3D artist, always create a reel (I recommend 90second max) that showcases your best works to date. And be sure that the reel is shown at the homepage of your website. Recruiters have no time to navigate your website to review the works. When creating the reel, be very critical when reviewing your works. Ask yourself honestly, which works are good and which are not? Even in a single work, ask yourself, which is the best part to showcase? For example, if you did a 10-second animation, you may want to just pull out the best 1 to 5 second of the animation to put inside your reel. Also, in your reel, consider to put some breakdowns to show the progress and how you eventually achieve the final result.

When I look at peoples work applications, I rarely read the CV and straight away look for your portfolio. It needs to be easily accessible and quick to find. I'd rather have a quick Artstation page where I can right away see your work then a beautifully made website where I have to scroll or click around to see just one piece.

Always keep in mind nobody cares where you have learned 3D! Your portfolio has to speak for itself. Having a diverse portfolio will surely make you stand out from the rest.

You should also keep this in mind: in addition to making your portfolio stand out, it should also be as easy to access as possible. If it requires too many steps just to view your portfolio than a press of a button, guaranteed most people won't even want to bother.
