Something I have learned when starting a new role is connect with the people first! it’s critical to understand your Business Partners, their expectations, their leadership style, how they engage, how they problem solve, and how well their critical thinking skills are developed. HR is always HR…systems, compliance, Talent development. etc. Those skill are there or will develop as you lean on colleagues and mentors. what’s crucial is to understand the culture and the expectations of how you should interact with your partners. Take time to develop the relationships and build trust.

Preparar as nossas ferramentas nada mais é do que nos despirmos de muito do que somos e entendermos que como RH devemos em primeira instancia, antes de indicar ou sugerir, observar e absorver a energia e o ambiente da nova organiza??o em que nos inserirmos e a partir daí decidir qual a nossa estratégia de actuar e gerir pessoas de modo a causar um impacto mais conciso.

Pour mieux agir en tant que RH, il faut bien évidemment des outils. Je dirai, à propos qu'il faut dans un premier temps prendre connaissance des outils RH qui sont déjà mobilisés au sein de la structure, s'ils ne sont pas dépassés compte tenu de l'évolution du métier et de la nécessité d'améliorer la qualité des services RH, si l'on dispose assez de ressources pour les exploiter. Par ailleurs, proposer des outils à la direction qui vont permettre au personnel de vivre une expérience unique au sein de votre structure et faciliter la collaboration avec eux.

I found it helpful to ask my manager for a list of the key stakeholders outside of HR Operations I would be likely to partner with. I scheduled short, informal meetings, sometimes over coffee, to get to know them and introduce myself. It was a great way to start networking and learn about the team dynamics outside of my immediate department.

Connecting with people is the heart of HR and especially in HR operations it is the key/tool to establish yourself and get things done. For any HR ops person the first thing to do on first day is to get introduced with the process owners. This will give them the impression that you're in to bring about a change, A CHANGE FOR THEM , A CHANGE FOR ALL. So this first day gives the first impression of who you are and sets the expectations and tone for the rest of your journey. Use it wisely and for the people!

When I joined my current role my manager shared a list of key stakeholders with me, I then reached out to them to book in informal calls. This gave me a huge opportunity to get to know them a little, their roles and responsibilities and areas of the business they work in. Don’t wait for people to reach out to you. Just go for it!

HR Operations is a unique function in that it is a true stepping stone into the work of HR. You are exposed to so many facets of the business and get to work with so many cross functional teams that you will get an incredible insight into the work of HR. Soak it all up and decide what you want to work towards, set goals that give you exposure into that realm or guide you into a position in that field.

Je suis bien d'accord avec ce point, d'autant plus que le nouvel employé, malgré qu'il dispose des compétences dans la pratique de son métier, doit dans un premier temps s'imprégner des valeurs que partagent les membres de l'organisation. Il faudra donc, à travers les interactions avec les collaborateurs déjà anciens, qu'il puisse conna?tre le système relationnel et collaboratif interne, les attentes des personnes avec qui il est appelé à collaborer. Apprendre des autres est un excellent moyen pour adapter ses actions aux réalités de l'organisation.

Asking questions is important but it is equally as important to know where to find answers on your own. In my experience, the new hires who are most successful are the ones who take the time to find where the SOP's and enablement guides are kept and can look up an answer to a quick question just as easily as ask someone else.

J'ajouterai aussi, au premier jour dans les opérations RH, il faut se documenter des textes légaux (convention collective du secteur d'activité de l'entreprise, code du travail, code de imp?t, etc.), des textes internes (accords, chartes, règlement intérieur, livret d'accueil...). Prendre connaissance de toute cette documentation permet de se batir un référentiel pour toute action à engager dans les prochains jours ou mois.

Understand the culture first and foremost. Take some time to see how they currently operate rather than jumping in with both feet first. I’ve witnessed someone trying ti implement large corporate structures to a small firm and it backfired in a big way. Read the room and understand it before acting.
