I think in this day and age, where we are hyper-connected, it is very important to have: A system for keeping track of all the people you meet and find interesting. Develop a routine of reaching out and nurturing these contacts. What I would recommend everybody to do first is to read the book "Never Eat Alone" by @KeithFerrazzi. He will explain in detail how to go about this. Inspired by his teaching, I have created a Relationship Management Tool so that I can keep track of everyone I meet both online and offline. Kind of like a CRM system for my personal/professional life (As a Life Coach, mine are often intertwined).

Excellent advice? What I would do first is to get in the right mindset. Tap into why you find this person interesting or what value you see in what he or she does. And start with a compliment. (The book "How to Win Friends and Influence People" has remained popular for a reason ??) But make sure that it is genuine and appropriate, of course. I would do this shortly after meeting them. Depending on the context, I would then think up a message sequence and schedule this. Focus again on adding value and that way the conversation started. Focus on establishing rapport first, focus on the human being :)
