The problem with people's understanding of the sustainability of the photography profession as a whole is that there is no standard pricing guidebook for the profession, and we refuse to be unionized. So many jump to creating a business without experience, claiming to be professionals from the get-go, selling their time without experience like seasoned assistants. Offering a vision that no one can "replicate" should be sold as a one-off product. A product to license, since they want it so badly that the shot or image could make a company sell their image or product, which could generate millions for them. Don't give away the whole turkey. Instead, sell slices of the turkey. License it and set the terms: X year(s) or one time for X dollars.

Each license has a set of terms and cannot be used for anything else. There is no one size that fits all. Remember, sell slices of the turkey. They want another slice. Renegotiate. Billboard? Why can't you have a piece of that pie? So much money is being left on the table. Do you think Richard Avedon allowed his images to be used for less than $10,000 in a million-dollar ad campaign? Nah. Value yourself. Pick your clients—the right ones.
