How can you involve customers in team collaboration and feedback?

That’s so true. Steve jobs was a great product manager because he was a avid user of his own device. He loved using Apple product and he wanted to make it better. Without user, you don’t perspective. So interviewing them, gathering their feedback enables us to see what customers are looking for in our product.

When doing research for a product, it's cirtical to be talking to the RIGHT customers. It's best to do research with two groups: - the "power-users" or "hyperfans" who will have an in-depth understanding of their problems, competitors and potential solutions - and "everyday users" who will never truly love your product but will highlight every usability or convenience related issues Great sampling is the foundation of great research, much like great data is a foundation of great analytics.

I believe Beta versions were invented for this purpose. Most of the companies have small user base which are interested in using their upcoming features and companies use them effectively. It’s always better to test your product before it comes out to general public and who can be better than users itself.

The key word here is often. Don't get stuck on perfect - most people will have full understanding (and might even prefer) a Powerpoint or Figma mockup to a full-fledged system. Especially - finding out where your hypothesis is wrong (it will be most of the time) is vital.

It's good to consider this data collection a few weeks or months before launch. I agree so much with this. Once I commented on Figma’s website to tell them to add shadows to the feature list. And few days later, it was there. They showed on their Instagram that several thousands people wanted that update and they brought it for them. It made me felt heard and it made me feel that I was part of their product journey which converted me into their permanent customer.

Customer collaboration is not a one-off project. It's a continous investment that should be done in-house and frequently. It's key to create communications and marketing that encourages feedback and makes your end-customers listened to. It's also absolutely critical to invest in good data architecture and analytics toolkit to capture all of that feedback and be able to dive-deeper.
