It isn’t about walking around with a hammer and simply looking for nails. I recommend a bit of versatility in the tools you bring to the table with the caveat it isn’t the stethoscope that does the diagnosing. But even continuing with the stethoscope metaphor, it isn’t going to be helpful if what you actually need is an MRI. I built skills like coding to access packages and libraries to enhance my journalism and speaking gigs. For example, momepy, osmnx, ghsci, simply to name a few are pythonic. SQL is a powerhouse for moving through databases and filtering data for insights and deeper analyses like integrating Postgres with QGIS at the point of visualization.
