How can you integrate multiple cloud providers without conflicts?

Like any organizational initiative, an integration of cloud services should have a set of definable outcomes that serve organizational goals. I have had the opportunity to work with a myriad of customers who were multi-cloud for a variety of reasons, and those that could articulate a strong business outcome we far more successful and had more alignment. There are very valid reasons for multi-cloud, such as licensing benefits, specific capabilities and even some systems that specify a cloud provider as their only supported option. These concepts drive conversations drive clear choices and remove the noise around cloud choices that are often steeped in personal opinion and choice and move the focus to business value.

In my experience it helps to keep asking 'Why?' until you have a clear answer. Sometimes the solution is actually something to do with processes, or education. If you must use multi-cloud, then the answers to the Why questions will help you firm up on the goals.

It often comes down to your strategy, I've seen some customers split their business (and associated systems) in half and deploy 1/2 within different cloud service provider (CSPs), other clients duplicate systems across multiple providers and sometimes its via "organic growth" when different parts of the business independently use different CSPs. In summary its not easy, so take your time to think through what you want to achieve.

A good architecture is key to a successful multi-cloud environment. The architecture needs to be solid enough to apply to all environments yet leave enough flexibility for each environment to apply their unique qualities. Define the architecture based on concepts, as they are largely the same everywhere. Then provide more detail in cloud-specific strategies and finish with detailed solution designs.

Manage and monitor: Implement tools and processes to manage and monitor your integrated cloud environment. This includes monitoring performance, security, and costs across multiple cloud providers. Use cloud management platforms or third-party tools to simplify management tasks.

Cloud environments are ever evolving and so are your requirements. Make a decision today to get going and review in one or two years. Deploy resources from code, don't use to GUI for any implementations. You are likely to redeploy and tweak over time and the extra time spent at developing your pipelines will be recovered in future deployments.
