where i'm from, most of the buildings are over designed, in anticipation for future additions & alterations. it's advisable to engage a PE to assess the feasibility for additional installation of any fixtures. and, there's a good chance, that the structures can accommodate, since combined weight of PV panels & mountings are far lighter than HVAC or HCMV.

the capacity of PV panels today are more efficient these days, so it is quite possible to harvest more energy with somewhat lesser surface area. some have also become a lot more flexible and lightweight compared to PV panels from a decade ago.

subject to geography and azimuth of the sun, simple observations & monitored shadow casting can be indicative how best to position/tilt the PV. for better accuracy & science backed solutions, best to seek professionals who employ tools & software to simulate design iterations for optimal results.

PV development has improved in leaps and bounds, there are PV infused glass panels available these days, that merely requires replacements of appropriate glass panels where natural light hits. there are also PV rolls that can be adhered to the necessary surfaces, without having to erect awnings or structures for panel mounting.
