My banking client wanted to keep their documentation minimal yet wanted to get the maximum visibility of every configuration changes, implementation procedures, code changes etc. The idea was to have very less KT time and newjoiners can jump in straight away to the job, Then I suggested them a strategy of update where it is changed. So for all requests raised through Jira the approval receipts have been tagged with possible issues, workarounds etc; all git commits had mandatory comments with simple explanation of 2Ws, finally confluence had been used for updating the documentation while implementing a new feature, including lessons learnt so all the knowledge is well organised, simply preference to organization over drafting documentation.

Feedback forms the backbone for the ethos of Devops, ie;iterative and incremental development & improvement. For the effective use of feedback it's important to recognise and segregate it. Feedback of technical importance like logs and all need to be directed into the respective logging system always fine tuned with specific measurable metrics an alerts configured. Feedback on performance, issues, errors should also be analysed in addition to having them fed to the corresponding tools. These should be journalised along with actions taken being clearly mentioned in the internal wiki for future reference. A bug and issue tracking system well integrated with the vcs repo and CI/CD pipeline always can make seemless feedback possible.

2 What are the types of system documentation?

System documentation can be divided into two types: internal and external. Internal documentation is intended for developers and operators, such as code comments and annotations, configuration files and scripts, test cases and results, API specifications and documentation, architecture diagrams and models, design patterns and principles, and technical standards and guidelines. I think the better approach is to use proper chatops mechanism together with statistics. Through collecting types of alerts (costs, bugs, downtimes, lags, scale and etc.) and metrics and also analyzing them through standard normal distribution can give better feedback about current situation in infrastructure and also product devlopment and delivery.
