It is crucial to know your audience in order to tailor your speech. Are they seasoned professionals in your industry? Or is your audience professionals in another department that works with you? If the audience knows the ins and outs of your industry, you can speak with a familiarity and use business terms and perhaps a few acronyms. If your audience is another industry, do not assume they understand all you know. Why does your topic matter to this crowd? Address their issues and interactions they may have with your department. How can you assist them? What knowledge can you convey that will be helpful to them? Research in advance what topics may be helpful to your audience. Ask questions in the beginning to engage the crowd.

I echo Maureen's comments. Knowing your audience is critically important. It's incredibly easy for Trade Compliance professionals to dive into the weeds and use industry jargon that can seem intimidating. Tailor your message to your audience - what do they need to know? Be clear, direct, conversational, and try to keep things as interesting and practical as possible. Use relatable examples that can illustrate the message you need to convey.

Practise make it possible to improve your public speaking skills. One good idea is to go to Orators Enthusiasts Clubs like Toastmasters where you will have lots of time and knowledge and time to practise your public speaking with like-minded people.

Make sure you arrive early and test out your audio/video equipment. Can your audience hear you? Can they see your slides? Take a breath and visualize your success. Also if you really want to take your public speaking skills up a notch, I recommend Toastmasters. Excellent public speaking requires practice. Toastmasters allows you an encouraging and supportive atmosphere to practice and master your public speaking skills. In a few sessions, you will witness how your fellow Toastmasters improve greatly. You will advance as well. Your fellow Toastmasters will suggest ways for you to master the skill of public speaking. It’s well worth your time and effort.

Delivered with example like as story telling to the Audience and more important to know the Audience capacity to understand the concept and level of their own work starts means end to end Commercial point of view where leader can add value with some practical use.
