SHRM has a newsletter that provides you with all of this information! Networking is my second recommendation. Don’t just “connect” with others within the industry, build a friendship with them! Data-driven decisions are becoming extremely prevalent in HR so you should develop skills in data analysis. Improve your emotional intelligence as you will need to understand and connect with employees from all levels of the organization. Lastly, work toward becoming solution oriented! You will need to address HR challenges effectively.

In my career, networking and gaining mentorship from folks that were superb in my areas of weakness was and still is, invaluable to me. The key is though, you must be real about what your weaknesses are in order to seek reinforcements in those areas.

In this dynamic profession, it is important for HR leaders and practitioners alike to ensure they maintain a growth mindset, critical thinking skills, and develop resiliency.

One thing I have learned in my 20 years in the field of human resources is you have to stay current. The world of work is constantly changing, whether it's the economy or the transition of new generations into the workforce. Learning from others is always beneficial. Their experience and expertise on subject matters make it easy to understand and are practical in life. The other alternative is networking. For me, I use edX to learn from professors and professionals across the world for free, and I have the app on my phone so I can even learn on the go, while in a waiting room or on lunch breaks. McKinsey & Company is also another one of my favorite, their articles are inspiring and in keeping with the latest trends and advancements.
