How can you improve the impact of your call to action during a speech?

The real key with the call to action (CTA) is to focus on the problem you solve that the client cares about. The proposed solution has to be valued by the client for their to be any hope that a prospect with respond. The CTA should be specific enough so the person knows what will be gained from acting and whether ot not your solution is realistic.

One question I find useful is to ask “what do I want the audience to think, feel or do?” It could be going to a website or buying something but it could also be to think about my topic differently, try something different, feel like I’m knowledgeable on the subject or feel reassured/inspired/hopeful. Defining think, feel and do, helps you craft a CTA that’s relevant to the audience and goes deeper than just a potential action.

Improving the impact of your call to action (CTA) in a speech is crucial for motivating your audience to respond the way you intend. One I’ve found helpful is to be clear and specific. For example, your call to action should be unambiguous and specific. Clearly state what you want your audience to do after your speech. Remember, the call to action is your moment to convert your audience’s interest and agreement into action. Make it count by being persuasive, clear, and compelling.

There are several ways to build credibility. The first and best is to have experience in the area and at least one or two good stories to explain how your solution has worked for others. Of course, having a book or testimonials is great as well. Testimonials are often best, especially if they are glowing and specific.

People only act on emotions. They may think about the offer rationally, but for them to act, there has to be an emotional response. The best response is based on fear. Don't hype the fear, but often your service resolves a real fear that the prospect has. Don't overplay it, but don't underplay it either. Let the prospect know that you feel their fear and can do something to alleviate it.

Of course, repetition is necessary. How many times is up for debate, but it seems there is general consensus of between 5 to 7 mentions. Of course, this depends on how long the presentation is. You can't shove seven mentions in a fifteen minute talk, but once every ten minutes works well. Also, include it in the summary.

In my field, it's true that the sooner someone takes action, the better. So, I'm not shy about telling them that. I'm not fake about it. I try very hard to explain the way my method both can take away fears as well as build to a successful future. Creating offers that make it easy for the person to say, "Yes" is key. Creating offers so good that people can't say, "no" is even better.

This is key. Donald Miller says, "If you confuse, you lose." Make your offer and the desired response as clear as possible. "Contact me," is rarely helpful. Providing a link to the offer or a mail response card or a QR code that leads to a landing page with specific instructions are better ways. You can even provide a step by step guide to accepting the offer.

In your closing call to action, remind the audience of the benefits of your proposed action—and express confidence in their ability. Express confidence in their ability to implement your suggested actions! This is something most speakers overlook. You’re asking them to stretch their thinking, to take new actions. Many of those listening will be feeling unsure. It’s a vitally important time to express your confidence in their ability. Otherwise they are less likely to take your suggested actions. It takes just a moment—and helps ensure the success of your message.

Stay True to You Often times we hear other speakers and see strong attributes and say, "I wish I could deliver like they do!" Or, "I wish could evoke the audience as they did."
