How can you improve the accuracy of your predictive models?

Data Augmentation: Increase the diversity of the training data without collecting new data (e.g., image rotation, flipping for image data).

Using qualitative data is vital for building an accuracy predictive model. Check whether the data is error free and has no missing values. If there are null values handle them appropriately and also check for outliers. Use only the relevant data for training the model. Normalize the data if required. Update the data regularly to ensure whether the dataset is reliable, consistent and up-to-date. By following these, one can improve the quality of their data and make it ready for data modeling.

As a DS to meet the client's expectation is my top concern and I usually use 5-6 ML algorithms for solving a single Classification or Regression problem. KNN, SVM, Decision Tree, Random Forest, XGBoost are permanent members of my ML dictionary.

The best way to improve predictions is manipulating the amount of epochs you have on a certain model. I don’t recommend heightening it too large as then the model is just memorizing data, but having a middle ground where it is effective on old and new data can help make a better prediction

One of the pivotal steps of any predictive model is its hyperparameter tuning. I recommend to close all background ops and set n_jobs =-1, verbose =2 while using Random/Grid SearchCVs to save execution time and keep a log of all executions in the background.

In my opinion, Hyperparameter tuning is a best way to improve the accuracy of the model. But when you go with that, you have to face lot of time consuming than regular time. But you need to spend that time to check that, whether your model' accuracy is increased or not. So it can be a disadvantage to using a hyperparameter tuning. In one of my project, I used hyperparameter tuning and I got the low accuracy than the default results. And I have spent more time on that!!! But in my other project, I got the good accuracy than the default one. So I decided to forgive hyperparameter tuning.!! Happy coding!

It's key to know what kind of techniques are used where. Generally, Classification Models are used to predict an outcome (yes/no ; Buy/sell etc). Regression models are used to predict a value. It's also best to convert the Regression problem into a timeseries problem, for best results

Knowing the relevance of each feature and connecting them with relevant policies and the question/problem trying answered/solved is important for useful predictive modeling. For example in a hospital trying to manage rehospitalization, it may not add value to consider gender and age of patients hospitalized because while rehospitalization may be linked to age and/or gender, a hospital may always need to accept all wihout bias per their policies.
