Definitely reviewing the job descriptions is one of the biggest priorities, since you can both think twice whether or not you truly have those skills or you're just lying to yourself that you think you have this skill because once you did a project in University with it. The employer's expectations are also of vital importance, but also very different from company to company. One company may think you're a senior on a topic, another might think you're still a med to even junior engineer. Once I applied to Beets now owned by FreeNow, I thought I was good with Golang, but damn, despite the interviewer being gentle, I realized I had so much more to learn. There's always something good to learn, dont be afraid of saying you suck at something.

2 Assess your skill level

Assessing your skill is a tricky one at first. Having interviews, I know, I know, they're exhausting, but damn *some* of them really teach you what you know and what you don't know yet and what you should have known and assess your skills. Also, in a very kind way, ask the interviewer if you think it's the right moment or person or situation, if they can provide you with some feedback over where do THEY think you are. It's a very good way to get a general perspective over your skills from other people other than you.

Prioritizing is an important way to get from your first to your last job. Prioritizing which industry you want to be in, which language you want to work on, which companies you want to work for, are one of the best questions that come to mind that you should make to yourself first before assessing any interview. Like "I dont want to work for X companies coz of Y reasons but I'll work for Z companies though" or "I like this language(s) or set of framework(s) and people seem to be using them in the industry and asking for them, so I'll try to beat myself to it and learn them the best I can".

4 Customize your resume

I've made quite few mistakes on my first Resumes. As other people did too. We often prioritize wrong things or think we know too much more than we actually do. You put C++ in your resume? You better be an expert or at least competent at C++ and its ecosystem. Not just know its syntax. You put that you're knowledgable at X? Well, they're gonna ask you what's your experience on that. It's a major mistake for an interviewer the interviewee to put things they don't know on their resume. Of course, achievements and your projects, should be enlisted and don't lollygag. The interviewer doesn't want to read a book most likely, but just see if you're competent enough for the job.

Most job listings, are done by recruiters or people who are not very aware of what technologies to enlist. And software engineering is always an evergrowing massive field Please, do consider that the "requirements" list of a job posting, is almost always a "nice to have" unless said otherwise The best quality job postings I've seen, which are truly good are describing exactly what is your position and what you'll be doing. Which is not done very often On average, often job postings are really vague and they enlist much more things than they should have Oh, there is no such thing as "Fullstack Engineer". It's called "doing 5 jobs for one salary". Doing devops, photoshop, marketing by doing UI/UX, back/front, arch, etc is not a single job
