There are two things to consider in any working relationship - self reflection and giving permission. It's necessary to reflect on your own behavior to ensure you've remained calm, supportive, and open especially when frustration occurs and/or lack of communication. Whether you have contributed to that frustration or not, it certainly doesn't hurt to consider your role and ask if there is a way you can offer support. If the relationship didn't start with some level of psychological safety, it may be time to give permission to the mentor to be human - to express frustrations as they occur so you can get direct insight into how they might handle difficult situations. This does require some type of psychological safety to exist.
