1: It's essential to organise regular meetings where everyone contributes with his own digital literacy skillset by showing what he knows and how that can help the company grow. 2: Giving to all the people in your organization tasks that need a vast array of digital skills to be completed will also make emerge any gaps as well as the excellence of the company that can be put in training positions to help your other fellow organization members.

Self-assessment is a good way to find the gaps in digital literacy. Don't assume. Start by asking people. Whether that's through surveys, interviews, one-on-ones; whatever works. Your people will have an excellent and intuitive sense of their own development needs. They will know what's taking too much time, where they feel unsure or lacking in digital skills, when they sense things could be better. But above all, your people are the best source of ideas and innovation and will be delighted to be asked.

There has to be a process that defines improvement. That can only be done when there are goals. Goals will help focus attention and resources and will also provide a measurable path which can be followed in order to achieve whatever that may be

I can get behind goals and objectives to improve digital literacy from an organisational perspective - it's in the organisations interest to improve the digital literacy capability of their staff. Not sure that I would frame setting goals and objectives for my mentees as they should be setting their own goals and objectives from the mentoring relationship. You can absolutely support their ambitions in this area - but be clear what you get to set and for who.

The first step in my opinion would be to identify and develop the strategy for the organisation. This sets the stage for what skills will be required in the future. From here it is much easier to identify the current and to-be state in terms of the technology. Doing an honest assessment of the skills across the organisation can be effective then. Once this is obtained a skills development and hiring plan can be devised. Some of the hires can also help to then, in part at least, to push towards new skills adoption in the organisation.

I love this part where I pick the how-to for hitting those goals. I have many strategies, a blend of formal and informal learning, mix of coaching and mentoring, add in online course, podcasts etc Peer learning and communities of practice are great too for that hands-on, collaborative vibe. I always make it fun and engaging. Gamification turns learning into an exciting process. Bite-sized lesson keeps it digestible. Even badges, people love it, like gold stars we loved as kids, giving a sense of achievement. Mixing and matching my approaches keeps everyone motivated and on their toes. It's about creating a learning journey that's as enjoyable as it is effective. The key is to keep it varied, engaging, and aligned with your goals.

While designing the digital ecosystem itself, effort needs to be taken to make it more intuitive & fool proof to avoid human errors. One of the methods we went for implementing a digitized barcode based material tracking system for a downstream steel client was to give a feel of the equipments & process right from conception demo of project itself. The new devices created curiosity and everyone wanted to get acquainted to them. It helped even unskilled operators to get hands on knowledge of the new devices much before implementation.
