Most of the time we don't have accurate drawing for the current existing services like underground cables , water pipes. So site visit and survey is required to ensure that no accidents might happen.

I am keeping site planning in parallel with risk mapping cause in my experience, a perfect site plan doesn’t exist and there’s always room for improvement especially in a big, complex project. Asbestos registers, installation plans, previous inspection reports or ppm registers are all documents you can request prior to your visit to provide your team the fullest picture of the site, and its risks, before they further refine those hazards via site survey. initially we will have the execution plan which will illustrate the areas and activities sequence, then based on that site facility plan will be built according to it, safty plan will be belt after that to be align with those plans and will dedicate the potential hazard for example based on the execution plan area one will be executed first then area 2 will follow after 2 weeks from area 1 start then the site facility plan will select a location for the generator will respect the areas execution sequins even the cable route will respect that which considered in the safty plan and illustrate all the proaction’s which should be taken to minimize the electrical hazard

Electrical Hazards are all around us, and electricity is not very forgiving when an incident occurs. Make sure you plan out your Temporary Power needs and requirements with your Electrical Contractor. Sit down and have a discussion with each Trade/Contractor and understand what type of lighting and power will be needed for Construction. Not only for the needs of Building and Installing, but what equipment will need power for Commissioning and Startup. Once that is accomplished the plan can start to go in place for the different power demands, and for the safety of everyone on the Job-Site. How will this project need to be phased to meet these requirements and have robust controls in place for protection of people and equipment.

As an example, the IEC and the NEMA normative are quite differents for MV and LV equipments; NEMA considers cabinet protection as passive, so operator must wear protective clothes, which are divided in 4 types depending on the potential amount of energy involved (cal/cm2). Agree PPE is one of the last in hierarchy of measures to control the risk. Guess the workforce and management is constantly exposed to a myriad of marketing messages promoting PPE as a ‘panacea’ - sadly this does skew perception of the well documented controls methodology.

While safe practices are taught and rehearsed, the key is being compliant to without having anybody oversee or check. Self discipline and right habits are must. Since lot of electrical related work is in close confines, will not be possible to always have somebody looking over.

First step in Safety for any project or organization is to have Project head who is serious and sincere about Safety of every staff / workmen on his / her project. Safety is driven from TOP and implemented from bottom. Safety must be the top most priority for the leader and must be having Safety team which can prepare best Safety plan including best safe practice like Hazard identification / HAZOP / Task risk assessment/ TBT / Safety awards / measurements etc. Unless top leadership is serious, no safety culture can be developed and project can’t be safe.

Careful consideration must be given while choosing Location for of Electrical Equipment/ meters/ installation room. It is frequently seen that due to acute paucity of space [especially at locations like Mumbai], such room(s) doubles up as a storage space. Management and concerned technical workers must ensure to avoid it being used for such other purposes. As, in case of emergency movement within such room is hazardous and may leads to mishaps. These rooms to be properly identified with the signages and warnings so that access to these room(s) should been restricted. The staff deployed to look after these room(s) should be well trained and sensitised so that they know the importance of access and use of such vital installations.

while doing grounding on your site i think you could financially benefit this and do a grounding system for lightning and thunderstorms specially if we talk about construction sites and oil and gas sites which have a very wide open spaces with compostable/explosive materials present.

LOTO is a great tool/program in such situations. An effective LOTO saves many lives. No electrical energization should happen without LOTO.
