How can you help a team member struggling with cold calls?

Understand the root cause: Talk to them: Have an open conversation to understand their specific challenges. Are they nervous about rejection? Do they lack confidence in their pitch? Is it the technical aspects of cold calling that trouble them? Observe their calls: Listen to recordings or sit in on live calls, if comfortable, to identify specific areas for improvement.

Research: Understand the prospect's business and needs to make the call more relevant and engaging. Practice: Role-play scenarios to build confidence and refine their approach. Script: Develop a flexible script that includes key points but allows for natural conversation. Listen: Emphasize the importance of active listening to respond effectively to the prospect’s needs and concerns. Feedback: Regularly review calls together to identify areas for improvement. Mindset: Foster a positive attitude, focusing on learning from each call rather than just the outcome. Resilience: Remind them that rejection is not personal and is part of the learning process.

In my experience this is the number 1 solve. Without understanding that specific challenge, the one they cannot seem to break through, despite their best skills and efforts, our coaching will be a band-aid at best. But when we can get to that root challenge, we can support and serve especially when we can tie it to their most important results.

In order to better understand the root cause we need to observe the whole process. talk us through the steps and the procedures. Identify the barriers and address them one by one. I would just try to understand their perspective and then ask questions to self reveal the right path to go over the barriers

Confidence boost: Share success stories and celebrate their achievements, even small wins. Role-playing scenarios can also help them feel more prepared. Mindset shift: Address any negative self-talk or fear of rejection. Help them reframe cold calling as a valuable opportunity to connect and offer solutions.

I would call this a compliment sandwich: 1. Have a sample size of calls (i.e. 10). List the things that were done well (active listening, didn't rush, provided clear thoughts on product/service 2. Ask them how they felt and what went right 3. Ask them what they felt can be improved upon (share your thoughts as well - 1 or 2 takeaways (anything more is a distraction) 4. Implement a goal(s) to work on (again 1 or 2 ideas) and have them work on them. 5. Rinse and repeat

Set up a mock up call with yourself based on real situations. Lead by example, show your technique and case studies. Work together on brainstorming a good common technique with best practices. Define what's areas you must touch on every call using a well defined script based on the best practices.

Offer practical tools: Call scripts and templates: Provide templated call openings, questions, and value propositions to ease the initial pressure. CRM tools: Utilize CRM software to help them track leads, manage follow-ups, and analyze call data for insights. Technology: Consider using call recording and transcription tools for self-evaluation and feedback.

Setting Realistic Goals: SMART: Utilize the SMART framework to define goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. For example, instead of "make more calls," aim for "complete 20 qualified calls per week." Start small: Begin with manageable objectives and gradually increase difficulty as confidence and skills build. Focus on progress, not perfection: Celebrate small wins and acknowledge improvements, even if the final goal isn't reached immediately. Individualized approach: Consider each team member's strengths and weaknesses when setting individual goals.

Generally We give end Targets and ask the person at the end of the sales cycle, why numbers are not achieved. Here we have to change the perspective and align the team with weekly/daily/hourly-Task oriented work. Example: Today each member needs to book 4 leads and conduct 1 demo. In order to achieve the same, we will break it down into slots -Pre Lunch -Post Lunch Pre Lunch 2 Bookings should be there 10-12pm:1 booking 12-2pm:1 booking Post Lunch Agenda 3-5pm:1 booking 5-7pm 1 booking 7-8pm: 1 demo we have to monitor and check the non productive areas and once we fix it, team is on TRACK>>

Fijar objetivos claros, en cuanto a mínimos que se deben cumplir. Ese mejor fijar un número mínimo bajo y que sea de calidad, con clientes cualificados y contactos claros, que permitan que se vaya ganando confainza. Fijar un número de llamadas elevado solo desmotiva al ya desmotivado y se rebaja la calidad de la atención. Mentorship is so key. I had a mentor share with me, “being right is insufficient for being effective.” What an opportunity to lead, to seek to mentor, teach and grow as opposed to finding what’s wrong.

Train the sales team and set the agenda for them. Firstly, We need to align the Input and once the input is aligned the output will be there. -Daily Dialed Numbers -No. positive lead target -call time above 5 mins: no.of Cx Once we master the above 3 pointers, We have data to analyze where the sales team is lacking, Is it input or does the team need the training to improve the calls Once we fix the mindset and agenda, the Sales team will be motivated as they can feel the change and that will result them sales.

Taking the steps listed above are more than likely going to help most struggling people, but sometimes you’ll have team members who still need work. Allow them to listen to their calls with you if you have that option. Ask them to provide feedback and see if they can recognize where or in what area they are struggling. This helps to increase ownership, buy in, and accountability. This will also help you to determine if this matter is one of skill or will.
