They need to understand, map and asses their current network. Networking is not only important during job seeking but will also benefit in the organization. Understanding your network can get the job done (including finding a job) like assisting in getting cross-functional team in solving a complex problem that you face. Mapping your network would identify all your connections, categorizing it and capitalizing the benefit of your network, example: finding experts/ jobs in your connections that can help you land a job. Assessing your network would identify diversity, gaps and strengths of your network; whether your network consist of people, experts, companies that fits with your career goals or industry that you aspire to.

When I transitioned in 2017... I was blessed with few new connections, one of them was my Coach Dayal. He asked a very simple question which was quite provoking. His question was "how long have you been using your phone? How many phone numbers roughly you have stored?" After I answered... he was just looking at me, paused never said anything and allowed me to sink into the deep meaning... the rest is history!!! We always try to connect and expand our network without realising the power of current connections already in hand. Divide the phone contacts into reasonable buckets such as, professional, personal, others and then focus to break them down further based on their industry, value, followed by a prioritization based on career interest

Remember that networking is a two-way street, and it's essential to approach it with a genuine desire to build mutually beneficial relationships

My perspective: Reframe the purpose of networking: It's not about getting a job. Network to increase/raise visibility; learn more about your sector/expertise; get on the radar of those connections that may be interested in you.

In my experience to enhance networking skills, job seekers should participate in industry events, join online communities, and engage in informational interviews with professionals in their field. Building genuine connections and showcasing their expertise through platforms like LinkedIn can also make a significant impact on expanding their network.

Set SMART goals: Guide them through the SMART framework: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. (e.g., connect with 10 relevant professionals on LinkedIn per month, attend 2 industry events in the next quarter, and secure 3 informational interviews by June.) Personalize Based on Industry & Goals: Tailor their goals to their specific career objectives and industry norms.

We help prioritize networking activities. Too many businesses at first think they need quantity when it comes to network opportunities. What they need instead are quality relationships. We do this by setting a goal of meeting THREE new businesses per event and setting 1-2-1s with all three. If they do not have time to meet with those three outside a networking event, they are going to too many networking events.

First step would be for him to understand ,what he wants to achieve from networking. Second, decide upon his options as to how he will connect with people, whether through events, online platforms, or direct outreach. Third Determine when you'll start and how often he will network. Fourth, Be flexible and adjust his approach as needed.

Very often young professionals fail to utilize networking event opportunities. In the longer term, they lose the ability to leverage even the existing network. To be an effective and efficient networker, pay attention to the following networking etiquette skills: - Do your homework, identify contacts you want to meet, nice to meet and you want to avoid ;) - Learn how to attract the attention of your contact without damaging the natural flow of conversation; - Do follow up with your contact after the first meeting, thank her/him for the time spent together, and connect via LinkedIn.

Networking is important and to me there are 2 critical hurdles to get better at it. Most professionals will have no issue identifying who they want to meet - it could be others within your organisation or external parties which you can look up using LinkedIn. The difficult part is getting started - how would you make the approach, and secondly, how do you keep the conversation going. To tackle this, I would suggest a good elevator pitch / intro of who you are. For example, if you are at an event and speaking to one of the speakers, thank them for the presentation. If it is another participant, you can open telling the person why you are at the event. Chances are the person would appreciate the gesture and build a conversation with you.

Three simple points: 1. Be genuinely interested in the person you are interacting with: If we want to be interesting, we need to be interested first. 2. Ask open ended questions: This means asking questions that do not just have Yes/No answers. If we follow the first point, these questions will come more naturally. 3. Go with the attitude of adding value, without any expectations: You could add value by sharing your experience and connecting them with people who could help them with their needs.

Tips for building confidence: practice introductions, use conversation starters, and address nervousness. To find networking opportunities, recommend relevant groups, events, and webinars, and guide them on building professional profiles and engaging on social media. Emphasise relationship building, practice active listening, maintain professionalism, and follow up effectively.

Me, me, me, me, me. This is how you FAIL at networking. Many people think networking is all about gaining something for themselves. This is how you come up short, are unlikeable, and don't get anything out of it. The real etiquette in effective networking is to give. Them, them, them, them, them. Come from a place of wanting to help the others you connect with. (And I'm not talking about selling something to them). Be real, authentic, and be interested in their stories and experiences. Ask them questions about what they're talking about and get involved. Networking doesn't have to be scary. Go, put yourself out there and give. This has always worked for me!

Todos buscam se conectar com pessoas que possuem interesse semelhantes aos teus e ninguém é t?o bom que n?o tenha nada a aprender. Foque no propósito, busque pessoas alinhadas a ele e n?o tenha receito de acessá-las contando sua história de forma clara e verdadeira, onde poderá dizer o porquê a ajuda dela seria para você de grande valor no seu processo de desenvolvimento. Ajudar é uma dádiva, uma ben??o e acredito piamente que a grande maioria está totalmente aberta à isso.

An excellent tip to expand your network: at the end of a networking conversation, ask, "Who else in your network would benefit from meeting with me?" " Who else in your network is excited about this topic" And always end with a Thank you.

This is a very important one. When you find the people you share values, morals, experience with…make a point of checking in at regular intervals. Don’t just talk business/ work. Connect on a personal level. Build your tribe.

It's important to build a network that has mutual value. An easy way to get over the fear of reaching out to someone is, is to coach the individual to uncover and understand the value that they too can offer to their contacts. This builds a more genuine connection and reduces the likelihood of rejection.

It takes four legitimate referrals given to earn one. If you want your network to refer business to you, you must feed your network first - nurture your network - before you expect it to feed you.

Well, personally I don’t think this should be a coaches job but he should be a lighthouse in their journey. However monitoring the progress of their networking efforts, tracking their connections and interactions, and evaluating the effectiveness of their networking strategies in reaching their goals should be guided from time to time. This could involve analyzing metrics like the number of new connections made, the quality of interactions, and the outcomes achieved through networking efforts.

I oftentimes push people into stepping outside of their comfort zone, as only there happens the personal growth. After years of networking, it comes easy to me - but it does not mean that everyone feels like this about new people and strangers. So, I offer taking 1-2 person with me to events. The newbies feel more confident, as there is at least 1 person in the room that they know. With each next event - their network grows. And i think it is beautiful!

One of the best lessons I ever got was on the need to network at all times. One of my colleagues used to set aside 3 hours in his calendar every week for "networking". It forced him to reach out to people externally and build his network. In Asia we tend not to reach out without an agenda but people will give you time for a coffee. Another colleague used to build a map of all the folks within the industry in companies he will want to work for, identified the functional leaders and then as to who they know. No surprise, in 90% of the cases he had someone who helped him connect. You need to be deliberate, planful and not shy in asking for a short meeting.

Don’t just seek, attract people to your network! In my opinion, one of the best ways to expand your network would require you to be more proactive to showcase your unique strengths. Step 1 is to make sure that you have to be very good/extremely good at something (make sure that you have proof for this). Whether it’s a skill or an interest, build an online journal, could be a blog or a social media site where you can update the network with the activities/thoughts on certain topics, your network of followers who appreciate what you do will follow you from there.

Know yourself. Know what you bring to the spaces you are getting into. Get to know what the people in those spaces care about. Be genuinely curious about who they are, what they aspire to, what they fear. Be honest about who you are. See how you can bring value in their life, see how they can bring value in your life. Pursue any spark of interest, make it human and enjoy!

As both a coach and mentor I've found that, regardless of age or industry, successful networking always begins with understanding the person's behavioral style and developing a strategy that is comfortable while also challenging them to push outside their zone of familiarity. For example, I have mentored people who are extroverted and highly active, for whom standing around making small talk at a reception is a nightmare. In these cases, we identify what is interesting to them while also supporting their networking (eg: join a social group to engage in an outdoor activity and meet new people/build relationships). For one introvert I mentored, we agreed that going to networking evenings with a more extroverted friend could work well.

In my 15+ years of career, I have been approached by many job seekers for advice and THE most surprising thing has been that it’s always been male peers reaching out and not being afraid to hear no. I would highly encourage fellow women to not hold themselves back and learn to put themselves out there. You will be surprised how many people are willing to support, coach and guide!

In my experience, the most important thing in networking is “keeping it real”. The power of genuinity shouldn’t be undermined. I had a phase of following the blind advices I received. I followed all the etiquette rules, had a beautifully crafted elevator pitch and value proposition. The first strike was awesome. But there was no real connections in those networks. The initial buzz and fire slowly fizzled out. However, thankfully I grew out of that phase, and matured enough to a large generous dose of self, my real genuine self. And that has made a world of difference for me.
