One approach I've found helpful is to ask the questions "why should we not do this?" Or "why wouldn't this work?" It's easy for optimists to try and give everything the "grand sell" from the get-go, and it can feel pretty deflating when someone criticises your hard work. Asking those questions above allows an optimist to identify very quickly if someone has valid/real concerns about a proposal, or whether it's personal criticism/a negative attitude from the person providing critique. You essentially provide the pessimist with the perfect opportunity to provide their "grand sell", balancing the conversation.
