How can you generate revenue for your Web3 business without sacrificing your values and vision?

First and foremost, it's crucial to discern the nature of the project being launched. - Profit-oriented with immediate financial gains as the primary objective. - Capitalization-oriented, aimed at future exits or listings, such as IPOs, etc. - A utility-focused tool for web3, with no inherent profit-seeking goals. Each of these paths demands a tailored management approach, strategic planning, and budget allocation. A meticulously defined project vision and adept tool selection facilitate seamless synchronization of revenue generation endeavors, ensuring alignment with the founder's vision and the values of the web3 community.

The primary purpose of tokenisation as part of your web3 strategy needs to be value creation and not value extraction. Understand your value proposition as part of your core brand promise or as a part of your web3 initiaive and evaluate how you may tokenise the same. For example Starbucks, which runs the largest customer loyatly program has tokenised it and is powering value creation by delivering unique brand experiences. If you are a reatailer and your customers care about tracking of food stuff from farm to retail, tokenise it and let customers verify the same. Benefit - Satisfied customers and increased sales. Strategise smartly to leverage web3.

Tokenization = fragmentation. But it doesn't make you revenue, or any traction regarding the success metrics. You just slide a pie into equal pieces. What about guys who'll go and buy these pieces and joyfully eat them eventually? You gotta create the demand before, to avoid failing down.

Creating and distributing tokens as a value proposition in Web3 can be risky. The influx of tokens could lead to market saturation, diminishing the unique value of each token. This risks devaluing the entire project. Most of the tokens have lost and will lose their value. Tokens were designed to represent a project's success. If a token loses 80% of its value, people will lose excitement. Simple human psychology. My proposal is to tokenize the revenue instead of the creating the tokens. This method is more sustainable for building valuable long term products. Everyone now is focused on generating more revenue which obviously leads to project growth. The more value contributors generate, the more revenue they will receive.

I talk about this a lot, at nauseam almost for the reason being that people really don't get it. When you can be omnichannel with your distribution, the same content that goes on your IG, should be the same on LinkedIn, as is Tiktok, Twitter, Snap, Facebook, Youtube and whatever else you use. Within this ecosystem or castle that you've built on other people's sand. It's important to back up your contacts/audience/network offline. The easiest way to do this is creating a Newsletter or Mailing List, that eventually you can charge for inclusion in, while simultaneously keeping people up to date. This is an example of maintaining an audience, your relevance and monetizing your data in an ideally authentic and non-intrusive way. Give it a shot.

web3 is about joint ownership v/s a leverage. A leverage, by definition is maximisation of advantage which goes against the ethos of web3, which "shared adavatage". Instead, think about the common purpose that has brought your community together and then work with the community to create opportunities to create value as a whole. Before the value gets created, create give back mechanisms, so the community also benefits. Your communtity is the fuel, as you draw from it, rememebr to add back a little more every time and you will be invincible. Give back can be royalties, unique digital assets, merch, experiences and so on.

The higher you climb the more of a target you become, so be mindful of how big you allow your community to get. I feel like the best ones grow organically and everyone is an advocate for the umbrella, working in different ways to keep the lights on. Being helpful and providing tools to that helped you become successful to them, will only help them become more successful and share more of their tools with you. This type of mutually beneficial synergy keeps morale high, participation active and the value prop great to become a member and stay a member. Remember if you're the trunk, and these are your branches, you want them to flourish as well to provide more shade, seeds and coverage for the newest members. The grass is green where you water

This is the highest level of engagment that aligns everyones incentives.

Watch other Web3 companies' marketing strategies. Put your own spin on the ones that seem to be successful. Analyze the partnerships similar companies had success with. Replicate them. Web3 companies change fast. Keep an eye on what direction your competitors are rowing at all times. They might know something you don't (but trust your gut if you think they are making a mistake.)

Learn from coroporates. Honestly. Those who grow and scale apply many of the most essential rules of enterpreneurship. In fact, many of the top tier Web3 founders come from TradFi and tradtional corporates, applying a highly diligent and competetive approach to innovation. There is no such thing as a free lunch. Particularly in Web3.

The value proposition must be timeless - this is what most Web3 projects forget and lack. If the tokenomics are layed out corrrectly, and the incentive mechanism fulfill all necessary requirements for retaining users and growing the developer community, the focus can be on maintaining and scaling the underlying infrastructure.

web3 is a journey and not a destination. This new iteration so the internet is still evolving and its early days right now. The tech evolves almost every day making new things possible. Have a consciously built emergent strategy in place that is able to respond quickly to the changing landscape. New routes will keep opening every other day to reach your goal and at times the goal itself will evolve in response to new possibilites. In a nut shell, keep an open mind and be ready to shift gears as needed.

Adapting to changing market conditions is essential, but it should be done with caution. It also depends on the degree of the change. Your community and users have specific expectations for your project. If you shift your project’s essence too far from its promised value proposition, you risk alienating and losing your hard-built community. While being flexible and adaptable is crucial, there is a fine line to walk between responding to changing market conditions and maintaining the core values and vision.

We are still in the very early days of Web3, specially when it comes to mass adoption. We have seen countless examples of rugs or badly exectued projects. That does not mean we have some great success stories too. But bottom line, this is quite a rollercoaster segment in which you need to be very flexible and keen to adapt to changes, something that some blue chip companies might struggle to.

Think about operating as a DAO. There's a paper called 'Open Problems in DAOs', which is written by industry experts from world-renowned institutions that proposes the following framework to address this exact issue. The framework is transparency, equity, immutability, prosocial purpose and respect for autonomy. Operating as a DAO allows you to build a robust governance system to ensure the framework mentioned above is implemented throughout your smart contract code. This ensures that, regardless of the decisions being made by the community, and thereby the DAO, you operate with your initial values and vision.

Consider this: the Web3 world is a small and niche industry when you look at the broader markets, both in terms of users and investors. In order for Web3 to onboard the next billion users, you must build for the Web2 world.

Craft your business model around your product offering, the core of your brand and its values. Be authentic, transparent, and consistently communicate your brand narrative and the benefits of your product. It’s fair to generate revenue, so don’t shy away from it. You don’t need to justify making revenue, as long as your product offering, and brand appreciation justify the price you charge.

monetization of projects in web3 is something web3 companies struggle with. Tokenisation is not always the answer and most web3 companies fail to implement a fiat option, reducing their marketsize to crypto users.
