How can you find diverse sources of information for career development?

Many companies have Learning Management systems that offer hundreds, if not thousands, of free courses. Identify a development goal, and select a few online courses. Most important, identify how you will put what you learned into action in real life. Don't put your career development on the back burner. It is often easy to forget to invest time in it, and just focus on your business objectives. Schedule a few hours every month, and you won't regret it. You deserve this!

One of my favorite books for career development is, Do What You Are. I can't count the times I've recommended it. It will help you learn more about your personality, and how it aligns with certain types of work. If you're unhappy at work, it will help you figure out why and what to do next.

This is the best way to do it. My advice is to get out of your narrow niche or role and attend events that are connected to your broader interests or even at odds with them. This is how real development is achieved. Open your eyes, your ears and your network to open new doors for yourself.

To get started with events and workshops for career development: 1. Set Goals: Know what skills or knowledge you want to gain. 2. Use Platforms: Search on Eventbrite, Meetup, LinkedIn, etc. 3. Join Networks: Follow industry groups for event updates. 4. Check Local Listings: Explore local community centers, libraries, and associations. 5. Register Early: Secure your spot and look for discounts. 6. Engage: Network and ask questions at events. 7. Go Online: Attend virtual events for flexibility. 8. Follow Up: Connect with people you meet to grow your network. These steps will help you maximize learning and networking opportunities.

Side hustles or volunteering are priceless learning tools. Not only you get new skills and knowledge, but you make valuable contacts. You can choose very strategically or just go with your gut and passion. There is no way you will loose time if you really try to contribute and learn.

When I've worked with people trying to figure out what they want to do next, trying to identify their strengths, I've asked them to write an email to 6 to 10 people asking for a brief summary of how they view their strengths. The result is eye-opening, and always encouraging. I believe it's best to work in the strength zone, not kill yourself to develop weaknesses. Knowing how other people see your strengths is important information to guide decision making.

Podcasts! I've learned so much from podcasts such as Diary of a CEO or the David McWilliams Podcast (Economics), TED Daily Talks, How to Fail (Elizabeth Day). There's a podcast for everything these days. Open yourself up to be Curious about what is around you and who is around you, ask questions that you don't know the answers to and you will find many sources of diverse information.
