How can you find a career that means more to you than financial gain?

Most of the people that I have met in my career who are truly passionate about their work can trace it back to their youth. I work a lot with the marginalized community and people with lived experience are some of the highest performers I have ever worked with. Their passion has been something that has been inside of them their whole lives and once they reach a certain level of stability in their careers they take the risk and start working on their real passions. Look for them when hiring. Most interviews actually screen out lived experience.

While some people may excel at multitasking in certain situations, it's generally acknowledged that complex tasks are better performed when focused on individually. The human brain is not designed for true simultaneous processing, and attempting to multitask on tasks that require significant cognitive effort can lead to negative consequences. It's often more effective to prioritize tasks, focus on them one at a time, and allocate dedicated time and attention to each. Individuals may also differ in their ability to multitask, and what works for one person may not work as well for another.

Embarking on a meaningful career journey starts with a deep dive into your strengths and interests ?? Based on my experience, being a Human resources manager has greater meaning in positions in a company that values diversity, growth, and employee well-being. Choose jobs or projects, for instance, where you can see the results of your work—whether it's increasing organizational performance, promoting diversity efforts, or increasing employee engagement. Seeking feedback on contributions and performance regularly might aid in our self-evaluation. To make certain that the?career path is exciting, take time to reflect on experiences, triumphs, and obstacles.

I wasn't searching for a new career when I discovered data analytics. I was leveling up my current occupation. Every time analytics was presented, I perked up, paid attention, and pushed replay. Next course, I drilled down into the analytics aspect. The more I learned, the more I realized the core concepts have shown up my entire life—pattern recognition, analytical thinking, use of technology and other tools to collect and organize information, research and investigate, problem solve, and present findings. All things I had been doing in my spare time for fun and often times for clients. Always exploring new things exposes obvious, but elusive, patterns in our personality we wouldn't otherwise have enough data to be able to piece together.

I remember telling the company owner ‘data is like a bunch of legos, Lincoln Logs, and tinker toys. I can’t tell you today what we can build, but it will be cool!’ And it still is!

It's also critical, in my opinion, to be informed about trends and innovations. Experimenting with new HR tech, including as employee engagement uses AI-driven hiring tools, and HR analytics systems. Examine their possible advantages and disadvantages for the business i??run.

Set your big goal like you plan a trip. Set your GPS and then identify the milestones to reach your goal (destination). Now you can focus on the action needed to reach the first milestone. Take one milestone / step at a time. Stay on your GPS track and celebrate every little step and accomplishment.

??Goal Setting Power?? Define a clear career vision and set SMART goals—Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound. Use the GROW model—Goal, Reality, Options, Will—to plan actions. With goals and actions aligned, craft a powerful roadmap for your career journey, ensuring success in transition or development.

In my experience , I have used the performance review period to determine what adjustments I need to make to get closer to the career of my dreams. Small incremental changes/ adjustments are easier to attain than major “leaps of faith”. This was influenced by where I was in my life at the time. I was able to “throw caution to the wind” earlier in my career, before I was a mother and when I held junior positions. Now I am a lot more considered and intentional about what I want and how to get there. There important things to note are : - you need a plan - focus on the goals but be flexible about how to achieve them - find sparks of joy in your current role while acquiring the skills for your next.

3. Review your career goals Our realities change with change in life stages. Maybe I have got married, maybe I have kids or ailing parents etc. Career trajectory needs to be reviewed every few years to understand if something else is a priority now and needs to be given more importance. Isto me fez flutuar entre palestras, consultorias e sala de aula. Podendo realizar o sonho, independe de ser apenas dinheiro.

You allow your passion and common sense to guide you. At the end of the day passion would lead to a sense of fulfillment and enjoyment, but money is still needed to pay the bills hence the requirement of common sense in the equation.

Consider roadblocks & detours as an opportunity to find new ways / strategies and explore new territory. Like on a road trip, detours can lead you to unexpected beautiful views and interesting experiences. Embrace the detour and ask yourself, "what did I learn from it?" Perhaps it was a sign to early on adjust your strategies and actions.

In my opinion (based on a proverb I can’t find) focus on knowledge, and caring for people and wealth will follow. So I have focused on finding out about something interesting to me, and caring about the people I work with colleagues and clients and done my best to deliver their needs, and I have enjoyed a level of success driven by seeking more knowledge and scope to help. I also find that this approach has really suited me, and means I really enjoy and am naturally interested in what I do and the challenges it provides, allowing me to seek more and different experiences and knowledge.

I would say in order to find out what your passion is. Find out the thing that you do that takes minimal effort and thought, and that you still would do even if you never got paid for it.
