The drilling engineering branch learning it’s a very specialized branch from the petroleum engineering career, the best way of learning in my experience depends a lot of career development you might get(i.e oil and gas company for what any engineer might work for). Because as much experience/tradition in the oil and gas sector, specifically in the Drlg branch has. The better high quality structured/ training plan and career you will have and so the accurate/dedicated learning any engineer will be navigating through the career. I can’t deny and in my opinion companies that accomplish with the mentioned above are the American ones.

The best way to start is a broad approach, learn the basics of a drilling rig and engineering principles before diving into any certification courses. I've learned in both a structured manner at school and also at my own pace, don't really have a favorite but I guess it's subjective.

Unfortunately, there are not a whole lot of open resources for anyone to learn about drilling engineering online in my opinion. But when it comes to formulas and basic concepts drillingformulas.com does a really good job in providing a platform for learning and free tools.
