How can you excel in a new job?

1. Set realistic expectations: When I started my new job in marketing, I focused on learning the basics and gradually building my skills. 2. Communicate effectively: I made sure to communicate my goals and concerns with my manager. This helped me understand their expectations and how I could meet them. 3. Seek feedback: I actively asked for feedback from colleagues and supervisors to improve my performance. 4. Adaptability: In a fast-paced environment, I learned to adapt quickly to changes and challenges. 5. Proactive learning: I took initiative to research industry trends and attend relevant workshops to stay ahead. 6. Persistence: Despite facing setbacks, I remained persistent and focused on achieving my goals.

Beginning a new job can be a mix of excitement and anxiety. It's important to remember that your employer selected you among many candidates, trusting in your ability to grow into the role. Initially, focus on understanding your new environment: -Relax and Trust the Process: You were hired for a reason. Your employer understands that there's a learning curve and doesn't expect perfection from the start. -Set Up Meetings: Early on, schedule regular check-ins with your manager. When you are new to a job, the most important thing is to understand what is required from you - these are typically your formal responsibilities, but it's important that you clarify all the details around them. Once you know that, you can make a plan on how you will start to produce the outputs required and the best way for you to learn everything that you have to: use your knowledge to suggest an approach, but do clarify with your manager the best way to go about it. This way, if you're missing anything, this will be automatically flagged out, and at the same time, you will set clear expectations with your manager about what you will be achieving and by when. Remember that at the beginning is all about gaining trust as well.

A new job has 2 ways to understand: 1) Without experiences: you must take more time and effort to have foundation, It is wonderful if you have a nice leader. At the beginning, for sure that you need to have a general overview firstly and then dive into your works in next few days when you understand the flow. You should put the milestones for reaching knowledge, skills , training, asking and getting feedback ... which are required. 2) With experiences: obviously that you will show off your talents immediately. Same ideas with suggestion, that you need to prepare your mind first that maybe the new environment will be strict or something like that. Understanding work and what you'll do (including what your leader want you to do) is keys.

From the jump, build strong relationships with your team and take time to fully understand the job role and responsibilities. Make sure to stay open to feedback, ask questions, and seek out opportunities to grow in the position.

Not getting along with your supervisor or an important member of your organization??? Ask them to be your mentor for a few months. Instead of fighting against you, they will be interested in supporting you to achieve your goals, as this will make them look better as a great mentor and leader. Just shoot them a message asking them to be your mentor. Outline: > What you would like to learn from them and > What their time commitment would be. It can be as simple as meeting twice a month for 30 minutes.

When I was working as a hiring and people manager I made sure that my new starter was meeting with me regularly to give me feedback and to also receive feedback. In the beginning this was daily and then later on weekly. So I knew how they were progressing,. what they mastered and where they struggled and needed more support. Additionally each new hire was also assigned to a buddy which was a person in the same role they could easily reach out to, ask questions, get help and support. Starting in a new role is always challenging, new job, new tasks, new colleagues - so it is very important to feel you have people who care how you are doing. It makes onboarding so much easier.

Once again, seeking feedback and improvement is still a long-life learning. But when in a new job, you must be more proactive because your time is limited. Recognise that this period at work will be more demanding. There may be a distinct lack of familiar faces/ protocols/ procedures… a lot to get your head around, with a lot of pressure to not have a single ‘bad day’. Prioritise well-being outside of work. Looking after yourself will allow you to do the role justice. If you have a bad day, approach it with a growth mindset… aiming not to spend precious energy ruminating, and allowing yourself to move forward.

Once you've fully grasped the metrics and expectations for your performance, aim to surpass them. This could involve improving budget efficiency, exceeding sales targets, or completing projects ahead of schedule. As you make progress, take the initiative to identify areas for improvement within your organization. Yah, for sure that you need to show your outstanding point to your boss. That is the last thing in work everyone try to reach, to me. Using your strengths applied 80-20 concept combining with your kindness, confidence, quite sure that you can leverage your best to a good level that your boss can be attractive by you. Practice it day by day and you will be promoted and reward.
