How can you evaluate your partnership development skills with limited experience?

One of the ways I always evaluate experience is to step out of myself and look from a different set of eyes. Then ask myself what do I see, have I shown up as I would want others to have shown up for me. If not - why not, and how can I change that. Then I change it.

A few practical numbers to gauge the Partnership Development Skills: 1. Number of effective partnerships formed during a particular time period 2. Strategic value addition to both parties in terms of revenue, consumer reach etc 3. Communication frequency which includes weekly or monthly scrums

Pois mesmo sem experiência em parceria, no contexto capta??o e alihamento, o objetivo será alcan?ado. monitore ao longo do processo.

Do a quick review of your "limited" experience, and write down what worked and what didn't. Partnership development skills demand a blend of analytical and personal skills. Which of these are our strengths and which do you need to improve upon? Where in the partnership did things go off course. Did you expect the partner to do everything they promised, and have accountability set up to evaluate this? If not, handle your end, what you could have done better, then try to explain your limited experience from your partner's perspective. What was success to them? Where did things go well and where did they falter, from your partner's viewpoint? If you were the partner, what recommendations would you give? Integrate these.

Managing successful partnerships is all about successful relationship management. As such, I have not come across formal partnership skills frameworks. The key to managing partnerships is to focus on - Finding common ground & establishing clear goals - Being transparent during negotiations leads to building trust - Find agreement on priorities and be willing reset timelines as well as milestones - Nurture the relationship & be willing to connect socially. People do business with people, so a 121 relationship goes a long way in creating a solid foundation for a partnership

Partner feedback is critical to learning. If you can go back, do a quick review with them. Use some 1-5 questions - 1 meaning not happy, 5 meaning excellent - for a few areas of the project. Asked them what they expected, what they got, and if they could do it again what would they do differently? Use these measured and qualitative feedback to guide you to improve and grow. Keep doing this throughout your career in partnership development. Each project is a chance to learn a bit more.

Seeking feedback is the key to exploring new things. I like asking in 3 steps: Step1: open ended questions to get what people think you’re great at- something you are not even aware of could surface! Step2: Ask what you need to work on- your challenges. It’s possible you can take a course and/or you have this skill, but you’re not communicating the value you are delivering. Step3: Specific - I’m thinking about offering/ applying X in THIS way. Then shush…. Let your guest respond and after 4/5 mini interviews, you will have a good sense of is this idea worth pursuing.

An example of how important it is to seek feedback from your partners in evaluating your partnership development is when you are having a success curve up without having the full data and full info of the impact of your specific strategy on others. Sometimes you apply strategy to generate new revenues but having your partner's voice heard may double the possibilities of generating revenues if you change or fine-tuned that strategy the best way they suggest or mixing between yours and theirs. Always ask and seek feedback from your business partners and I guarantee that yout partnerships will be strengthen , developed and business will keep flourishing.

While it's easy to develop a lot of KPIs that can be used to determine the quality of your partnership skills, I have found it's almost always best to look at the most important goal that prodded your organization to create partnerships; then see how you're doing based on that factor. For instance, if you're trying to get channels for a product so your channels will produce revenue, how many partners did you get that are producing revenue, how did you help existing partners produce more revenue, and what's the aggregate revenue produced by your partners. These are slightly different KPIs; but all reflected in the single parameter of revenue as an overriding goal.

Determining KPIs and measuring outcomes is crucial in any partnership. The "when" is just as important as the "what" when determining value from outcomes, so be realistic about the timelines of delivery. Additionally, depending on how formal the partnership is, outcomes can be difficult to map/measure, particularly in informal partnerships or those that are an exchange of services. Setting a timeline to revisit outcomes and review progress can be effective in these cases.

A few things: - listen, listen, listen. The best BD and sales people ask questions first and jump into presentation second. Having more information tunes the pitch. - get a mentor. Have someone more senior shadow a few calls with you and provide active feedback. - ask a partner. Find a relationship that's going well, and ask them what do you think helped to drive that. If they open up, then ask what you have done well and what could be better (note they'll typically just offer the done well, so you have to push if you want improvement). - take a negotiation course. the Stuart Diamond one from Wharton is excellent.
