I believe that evaluation of junior data scientists work is quite a sensitive area of management. The three things what we should look at his ability to learn and experiment, approach to problem solving and adapting to new ideas. Rather than on,you focussing on end result it’s very important to focus on the approach a fresh/junior data scientist uses. The approach should be something that is new or something that the data scientist learnt recently instead of replicating what is available online. The focus’s on how right and wrong was the approach should be secondary but how new, bold, novel and innovative was the approach to the problem solving is imperative

In my experience of working with freshers (data scientists), many of them lacked the business understanding of the problem before investing a lot of time in a potential solution. Here are some things you should try for any given problem: - Ask your lead or manager many questions about the problem and see if you can align it with the short or long term goals of your team’s charter. - Once you have enough clarity on the problem from a business perspective, break it into different parts and assign milestones to each part instead of aiming for the final product at once.
