How can you evaluate project performance using Servant Leadership?

Lots to say on this topic, I think one strategy/action would be to negotiate with your team on what the top priorities actually are (cumulatively across your team). Another is to be the hardest working person in the group, as the leader. Watch how others step up!

In order to evaluate performance, we first need to know what is the outcome expected. As a servant leader, we can facilitate discussions involving all the stakeholders including team, sponsor, PO etc & help arrive at a measurable outcome, understandable by all & acceptable to all, agreed upon by all. To ensure this, we must ensure participation from everyone, probe to guide teams navigate complexities & to reach consensus for the success criteria. Communicating this with everyone is the next important step. Seeking feedback to ensure everyone is on the same page & aligned with the goals & vision of the project is the third step to define success criteria. Inputs on how the performance will be evaluated & how often can also be sought.

I agree to the above definition of monitoring the progress and its really important to do so. The way I do it is simple: 1. Have a stock of things every morning in the scrum. Create the data based on that. 2. Use the definition of success to measure against the process. 3. Take necessary measures to keep on track. If everything is green don't change anything but see if you can add a challenge to the team. 4. Add resources or training in case the project is not up to the expected speed. 5. If it falls behind take note of the reasons why and try to remove those in future projects. Hope it helps.

Support through words and deeds to drive success. Some of the least relevant to the task asks I’ve had from employees have netted the greatest change in productivity because they found support when they needed it.

Measure Impact and Value Created: Assess the overall impact and value the project brought to stakeholders. Servant leadership focuses on serving others, so evaluating the positive impact created by the project aligns with this principle.

Assess Lessons Learned and Future Improvements: Consider lessons learned and areas for improvement for future projects. Servant leadership values continuous improvement, so evaluating what could be done differently next time is crucial.

Evaluating project performance through the lens of servant leadership involves assessing not only the tangible outcomes but also the qualitative aspects that focus on serving stakeholders, fostering collaboration, and continuous improvement.
