Just as you meet in person, you want to keep your distance from your camera. I imagine the person it sitting across my desk in a face-to-face meeting. How would I sit with them in the room? I would sit up with good posture. I would also lean in slightly to show them that I am engaged. This is also possible during video calls and equally shows you are engaged in what the other person has to say. Camera placement is also key as it can be distracting if they only see the top of your head or just your head over-all. This would not be the case if you are in an office, so make every effort to have your posture and camera in a way that feels similar to if you were to meet them face-to-face.

Your gestures and expressions can also enhance or undermine your communication. You want to use them sparingly and appropriately, to avoid overdoing or underdoing them. These tips are similar to when in person. Again, how you act in a face-to-face is how you act when virtual. If someone sat across me and smiles the whole time, I would feel a bit insecure what is going on in their mind. You don't want to do it on camera either.
