NASA has developed the vertical garden in preparing for a trip to Mars. The travellers will need to grow their own food. Like many space challenges this development has a use on earth. NASA garden grows food using 2% of the water and produces the a yield equivalent to 700 acres of field grown crops from just two acres. Siemens and an indoor farming company have a partnership to see if this technology can be made economic. Should they succeed it would produce food year round in parking garages,mining shafts and vertical walls of buildings.
