Implement strong encryption algorithms to secure communications between IoT devices and backend servers. 3. Apply the secure protocols for device registration and authentication and same for the API communication between devices and backend system. 4. Regularly evaluate the security practices of IoT device vendors. 5. Regularly review logs for unusual or suspicious activities. 6. Apply the firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and other network security measures.

Understanding the risks and threats that IoT devices encounter is the first step in ensuring software security in the age of IoT. Unauthorized access, data leakage, denial of service, physical tampering, and malware infection are examples of such threats. You can create and perform relevant test cases and scenarios to validate software security by identifying and prioritizing the risks.

In my experience there is a huge increase in terms of integrations. Say Energy management, safety & comfort business, mobility is involving different OEMs, different protocols (open and proprietary) collaboration is key to secure data privacy in heterogenous environment. Best practices and standards must be followed to have security in place.
