One time in lab I was getting less than 10e-4 mbar in a chamber connected to big chamber separated by VAT valves even though the vacuum pumps were running days and night. The connected chamber was at around 10e-10 mbar. After lot of thinking and looking through the documentations I found that the gauge connected to this chamber was not able to measure less than that value. Therefore, to measure accurate pressure someone need to install an right kind of gauge.

In my work I have several times that the gauge or sensor should be installed properly in order to avoid erroneous pressure measurement. 1. It must be well sealed otherwise good vacuum will not reached of course. 2. Connecting tubes should also be proper length and diameter if the gauge can not be installed directly to the chamber.

Calibration of vacuum chamber should be carried out in a regular basis to get the reliable reading. The filaments wears off for extended usage. The magnets can become weaker for various thermo mechanical reasons and so a calibration can help to counter the aging related errors obtained in pressure sensing.
