How can you engage and motivate adult learners in construction?

In addition to creating curriculum and instruction that meet the needs of learners, it's important to communicate goals and rationale of activities set by the instructor as the course progresses. Looping learners into the "why" of activities helps them to see the relationship to the goals they themselves set as well as the overall value of the language training.

Understanding your audience is crucial. Consider demographics, interests, needs, and communication style. Adapt your message to resonate, whether it's for a product pitch or a presentation. Feedback refines your understanding and improves communication effectiveness.

During preparation, you need to understand who you're going to be talking to in terms of their fields and background in construction. What are their needs in terms of new skills, interests, expectations and challenges? How can you get closer to them and address their concerns by sharing your own experience.

Engaging adult learners in construction, a crucial task, can be summarized concisely: Relevance: Ensure practical, job-related training. Active Learning: Encourage participation through hands-on activities. Flexibility: Offer diverse learning options. Clear Goals: Set objectives and milestones. Recognition: Provide certifications. All of these suggestions would very likely work. Given that the right answer is given in the right situation. After asking questions and spending time getting everyone's opinion equally. Don't get me wrong. LISTEN. Get everyone's opinion as things progress. I will say without a doubt though that there are in my opinion a few things you can do at your company to attain, retain,and promote quality employees regardless of their demographics or age or any other status. 1. Offer growth opportunity: nobody wants to do to work knowing that the job they do is the highest they can get to. 2. Offer regular pay increases based on performance and stick to it. 3. Be reasonable with benefits concentrate on the employees paid time off.. out of space here

There was a group of learners who were enrolled in an electrical course. They were excited to learn about the technologies and techniques used in the field, but the instructor noticed the learners' lack of engagement and decided to switch things up by introducing active learning methods, such as group projects, and real-world scenarios. The learners were encouraged to apply the theories and concepts they learned in class to practical situations, which helped them to better understand and retain the information and participated them in real-world scenarios where they had to troubleshoot electrical problems and find solutions. This helped them to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are essential in the field.

In all aspects of life respect is earned and not given. It is a fundamental principle that is built upon mutual understanding and relationships. This mindset can lead to better results and outcomes. Both in and out the workplace.

Creating a supportive environment involves encouraging open communication, active listening, and empathy. Recognize individual strengths, provide constructive feedback, and promote teamwork. Such an atmosphere enhances morale, creativity, and collaboration, resulting in a more positive and productive work or learning environment.

My guy, @robertmattia is very wise. But what I think he is trying to communicate is a deeply felt ENTHUSIASM for the construction industry. It is far more challenging and highly sophisticated than people outside the industry imagine. But it is also satisfying and rewarding and involves wonderful close personal relationships that span decades.

The construction industry involves finance, logistics, risk management, technology, management, and interpersonal skills. These aspects are all springboards to the business of construction. This is followed by the need to understand the business of building, starting with a concept progressing onto planning, engineering and finally execution. The best teacher is a mentor which is a rare option. The next best approach is to study construction via reading and taking part in it. The excitement of construction is witnessing drawings turned into reality. The ability to predict planned progress come to fruition is addictive. Learn by studying the detail, asking questions and getting involved. It takes time to develop but the rewards are worth it.

I might also add that the instructor should posses a well rounded experience in the business. Learners are quick to uncover an instructor verses an experienced practitioner. The industry is a combination of many skill sets and processes. It behooves an instructor to understand them through experience.

Very early in my career as a member of the Bechtel organization I received a very insightful peace of advise. It was suggested to me " Do everything, no matter how menial the task. If you are really good at it you will be noticed and will progress within the organization. Once you achieve higher levels of management you will be well armed with knowledge of each function thus able to build your own top performing project team and steer your own success." It was true. I started as a junior planner/scheduler got involved in cost, drawing control, quality control, safety, coordination, construction management progressing to Project manager and onto district manager. Now I share my experience.
