Starting with the assessment of your organizations current status in the journey of innovation will be crucial. As a large corporation you are often between these 3 spectrums Optimization - Improve what you do Transformation - Evolve and change Innovation - Be open to disrupt or diversify Knowing where you are takes you a long way in the Goal definition for innovation.

Create an open environment to discuss what problems we are trying to solve, and how innovations can solve challenges for both internal and external parties. Prioritize the top three issues, explaining why they're crucial. Then, dive into solutions, emphasizing the role of innovations. Encourage everyone to share ideas and align individual interests. This collaborative phase is key to defining the value proposition and ensuring it resonates with all stakeholders.

First of all, with very open communication on what the value is ? They should feel heard and you should listen. Encourage the "fail well, fail forward" culture, especially you are in the first steps of innovation. This makes people safe to think outside the box and collaborate more openly. Encourage diverse, cross-functional collaboration. When people with different skills and perspectives come together, the potential to innovate is much bigger. Good luck!

From my experience, it's crucial to create an environment where every idea is valued and where diverse perspectives are not just welcomed but actively sought. Effective leaders are also able to recognise that the appropriate level of co-creation varies depending on the specific situation. By understanding the strengths and limitations of each level of co-creation, leaders can make informed decisions about how to best engage their teams and achieve their innovation goals.

The model and practice of communication depends upon the target audience. Is it going to be an internal communication within the team, is it a communication to the other stakeholders? Innovation itself is a creative process that also brings disruption. It's not always very positive, it can bring negative results as well, or probably something that no one has expected? If the 'communication' means 'informing', then we need to bring the elements such as rationale, credible examples etc. If it means, triggering a conversation, then call to action elements need to be there. It all depends upon what degree of engagements someone is looking forward to.

Face to face conversations, audio conferencing, telling relatable stories, using positive language and an enthusiastic tone, email are ways to communicate. What's app may be used for quick access but legality needs to be checked.

Use direct interaction and real-time collaboration to provide opportunities to discuss ideas, brainstorm, and build relationships. On the other hand, I highly appreciated using virtual collaboration tools such as project management software, instant messaging platforms, and video conferencing tools (Examples include Slack, Microsoft Teams, Trello, and Zoom). A lot of diverse communication channels are available like regular meetings, innovation challenges, storytelling sessions, leadership communications etc but what works for us is a mix of different communication formats. Once we get on a zoom meeting, the CEO talks about the innovative idea and we create a Whiteboard where all the points are written down, the pros, cons of the idea and everyone’s points are put forth, it is all documented. Then an excel sheet is created with a final plan of action, duties and responsibilities being divided among team members and young team members are also encouraged to take up newer responsibilities. Provide training opportunities to help team members get up to speed on innovative tools that your team adopts. Remind them how the innovation will empower them, allowing them to take on more managerial roles. For those not wanting managerial roles, learn what they like to do and help them find alternate roles in your organization, if possible.

Constraints are the drivers of innovation. In order to get the best results out of a team, place strict, but reasonable constraints on them to push them in the direction you want to go. Keyword being reasonable. Unreasonable constraints can yield opposition, resistance, and hinder innovation. Especially with historically non-creative teams, it can be effective to put your team into unfamiliar situations. This will push them to think and work in different ways and find new solutions they wouldn't have otherwise.
