Failing to setting up equipment correctly is a quickfire way to damage your gears. Three things you need to pay attention when setting up the boom stand: 1. Face the knob to tighten the angle, and make sure that the extended arm is to the RIGHT of the knob. This way, when you add something at the end, the arm will cause the knob to rotate right as gravity will pull down the arm, tightening the knob. 2. Make sure to align the boom arm over one of the legs of the stand. If you're using a C-Stand, align the boom arm over the longest leg. 3. If you're using a sandbag on the base, make sure that the bottom of the sandbag does NOT touch the ground. (The full weight of the sandbag should be on the base.) Watch some YouTube on this; it helps.
