How can you effectively track and analyze your sales team's performance using software?

In each organization the key metrics change a little. You have the standard kpi cadence but if you are large enterprise software company, asp, sales cycle might matter more than a high volume business. No matter what, you have to be able to identify what the key metrics are for you and your team and you have been relentless in your focus on these and track them and coach to them consistently. I also agree that they need to be in a crm that makes the data easy to pull and easy to share.

The key metrics for me are: -Lead to deal conversion rates -Appointment setting rate -Deal closing rate All of these metrics should be implemented in the CRM as KPI's and you have to follow the ongoing processes constantly.

Peter Drucker famously said, "You can't manage what you can't measure." This principle is especially true when tracking and analyzing your sales team's performance. Accurately measuring success (or failure) is crucial for effective performance management. However, metrics can sometimes be misleading if not properly understood. It's essential to look beyond the surface numbers and comprehend the underlying factors affecting these metrics. Data quality is another critical aspect. If you aim for a 5% increase in sales, but your sales data is 10% inaccurate, the key metrics used to evaluate performance become meaningless. Therefore, ensuring data accuracy is paramount.

In order to effectively track, we need our teams to effectively document. To do this, we have to set standards and expectations on tool usage from the beginning. Teach our employees how to stay on top of utilizing the tools that provide us insight to volume, run vs set meetings etc. ? If we don't make this a priority, we will constantly be fighting the battle with at least one of our team members. But, if we take time to rely how, why, and follow up on those expectations, they will build the habit.

The key for a good leader is to inspect what you expect. Too many leaders ask their teams to track things in their CRM but don’t properly use that data to track opportunity and activity to help coach and assist in advancing success. If you ask your team to track things use that information to proactively ask questions and identify gaps in activity or opportunities where you can help. Great leaders tend to have a two heads are better than one approach to reaching goals faster.

It's very important to utilize all the information that the sales team filled in the CRM. No doubt sales leadership is all about collaboration and "buy in". Without it, the force feed method results in feeling less valued and possible resentment. Not exactly how to foster as a great "sales culture".
