1. As a biostatistician, I would prefer to highlighting your expertise and experience, you can demonstrate your proficiency in statistical analysis, software, and research methodologies. 2. Showcase your relevant years of experience along with highlight academic achievements. 3. Use bullet points or a table format to clearly and concisely list the skills and tools you possess, such as R, SAS, STATA, SPSS, Python, PASS, nQuery and any other relevant statistical software. 4. If possible, include a cover letter. Use this opportunity to highlight specific skills, relevant projects, and explain how you can contribute to the organization's goals.

Clearly outline your biostatistics training, including specific coursework and projects you have undertaken. Detail any advanced coursework or practical experiences that demonstrate your proficiency in the field. You should also include certifications in biostatistics or related areas to validate your expertise. Proficiency in programming languages such as R, Python, or SAS is also crucial; mention any relevant programming skills or projects where you utilized these languages. If you have any awards or recognitions with respect to Biostatistics, you must highlight them, as these achievements underscore your dedication and proficiency.

You have to think, what have I done during my education and training that differentiates me from the other applications for the role e.g. did I focus on a specific area, did I work with a prestigious scientist or company, am I involved in any publications or patents etc. The most important thing though is the quantifiable element, it's all good to say that you have experience with Bayesian Adaptive Design but how did you use it, what was the project and what were the results - these things are super important to know. This also goes for softer skills like study design and protocol development, the more things you can give context around and quantifiable elements, the more you will stand out.

Whe you are showing your skills in Biostatistics add them in context of the data and type of test you have applied. If you are mentioning the tools like R you should mention in context of analysis you performed.

The skills section is a strange place on LinkedIn, sometimes it can be great to have everything listed there but then what you've been using most recently and specialise in can get lost in all the old skills and tech you used years ago. I would say best practice is to have a run through of the main skills and tech you used under each job in your career history and a brief explanation about the job role including as many quantifiable elements as possible e.g. developed study design for x amount of studies / projects, managed budget and contract selection resulting in x amount saved. These are things that the skills section can't show and you need to showcase.

Ensure that the 'Skills' section reflects all relevant competencies, including ANOVA, Hypothesis Testing, Regression Analysis, and Bioinformatics. Additionally, mention any experience with biostatistics or bioinformatics software and databases, such as MEGA or BLAST. This is very important point to be remembered about the resume. Results should always be tailored made for each position and you should represent your skills as per the requirement. You should also give more emphasise on the paper and the problem you solved related to the post you are applying.

When a hiring manager is snowed under by 100s of applications (many of whom are fake profiles or completely underqualified e.g. a pizza delivery driver), there is going to be an element of skim reading profiles and sifting through based on high-level details like job title and in all honesty, I don’t blame them, it can be extremely overwhelming. Knowing that this can be the case, I would advise candidates to have tailored resume titles based on the application to try and avoid this– I don’t mean flat-out lie or change everything but if you’re applying for a Biostatistics role, make sure the recent job titles are in line with that and not ‘Research Scientist’ even if you make it clear in the description that you were doing a Biostats role.
