Some of the obstacles I overcame personally was not WHAT was communicated. More or less, HOW it was communicated. If you have a problem with a part of a song a made, tell me first! Don't put it on blast in the album budget meeting, while all our colleagues are watching. This may cause ANYONE to be caught off guard, and behave in a defensive manner. I welcome ALL feedback, but I don't inhale it all in! I weigh out the criticism, the person, the timing, the situation and how it came to my attention. I try to wait a few hours before I call a mandatory Zoom meeting to only have my coworkers tell me they ALL FEEL LIKE THIS. SO I act like Connections Bad, call off the zoom & sleep on it. By morning, I agree with them & learn from this critique!

My old coaches used to tell me “listen to the message, not the tone.” The person who’s giving you feedback may not be the best communicator, but it’s important that you understand what they are trying to convey. Don’t take the feedback personal or get defensive. This is difficult to do in practice, but will serve you better. If you don’t take it personal, then you will realize the feedback is actually to make you better as a professional. Sit back, listen, take notes & follow up with the person giving you feedback on the next steps you plan to take to actively become a better professional.

Listening attentively, and paying attention to extract the key messages that you could work on to improve yourself, even if it doesn't come out nicely from the speaker. The key is to separate your emotions and focus on what's one thing I can extract from this to improve myself.

Al recibir un comentario, igual que sucede en una conversación aunque con un tiempo de procesamiento distinto, debemos reflexionar sobre la información recibida (si estamos conformes, si puede ser útil, si es constructiva…). Tras esta reflexión y consecuente evaluación, podremos actuar en la dirección que consideremos más adecuada.
