You really need to review if SCORM is the right format for the delivery of learning - given so many and much better alternatives. SCORM 1.2/2004 are twenty year old standards and content wrapped up in these containers are so hard to maintain they to become an embarrassment to your catalogue of learning content. We have a campaign called ‘SCORM Rot’ that highlights that SCORM content does not age well and undermines both the learning intervention and the platform its hosted on. Again, the first question shouldn’t be which version of SCORM but if you can avoid SCORM.

Completion is one of most common metrics for measuring the success of an e-learning course, but it’s important to create realistic targets. The ease of enrolling in self-paced e-learning programs, often leads to lower completion rates, especially for open courses like MOOCS. Use other metrics to measure success such as number of interactions or satisfaction rates. Those will give insights about learners who were genuinely interested in taking the course.

In the LMS- Learning Management System, my Mentees get access through login id and password. Any time access. No restrictions. All the lessons completion and incompleteness are tracked on dashboard As the completion rate of online courses is very low, mere Courses may not help in the completion rate. Mentees get stuck and are not sure how to go ahead. What is the Solution? It has to be a combination of LIVE Coaching and recorded Courses. Even the recording of the LIVE Coaching becomes part of the Course. Still mentees may get stuck with group coaching. Offer them necessary 1:1 Coaching to get unstuck. This method of LIVE Group Coaching, Recorded Courses and 1:1 Coaching gives spectacular results in less than usual time. Cheers

This is an area where the 20+ year SCORM format shows it age. Often a SCORM is interrupted and doesn’t send the completion message to the LMS. Many SCORM authoring tools don’t test for successful learner completion after an initial failed attempt – this is an awful experience for learners, hard for administrators to resolve, and undermines the reporting. SCORM data collected in the LMS is generally not accessible outside of the context of the course page its hosted on, and is in a format that is hard to parse. As a result only the completion data is recorded and the rich learning analytics including of time spent, incorrect responses, number of attempts is not collected. If learner data is important you – maybe don’t use SCORM.

To improve the completion rate of online courses, incorporate the following: 1) Assignment submission 2) Surveys 3) Polls 4) Quiz These should be based on the Content and the Context When everyone is teaching the same thing- Job Search, Career Development, Salary Hike, how do you help your mentees to standout from other candidates in their Job Search/Job Promotion/Salary Hike/Subject Matter Expertise? It is not "what" you teach it is more about "way" you teach Use this analogy so that your mentees stand out tall amongst other candidates and get Success in Job Search, Promotion or even Subject Matter Expert Leadership Positions. Some authoring tools (e.g., Storyline) can export content to xAPI and many LMSes support it. The ADL Initiative, who created SCORM, created xAPI as its successor. While SCORM without the enhanced tracking offered by xAPI is sometimes the practical choice, an understanding of--and experience with--xAPI combined with an LRS is of great value in determining which tool is best for the job.

SCORM is well past is ‘use by date’. Most, if not all LMSs, have functionality to build & host learning content without needing it to be wrapped up into a SCORM container. If the answer is SCORM you’ve probably asked the wrong question.
