This involves breaking your niche into layers: macro, micro, and nano. Niche: A specialized market segment for a specific product or service. Macro-niche: A broader segment encompassing related niches. Micro-niche: A more focused segment within a niche or macro-niche. Nano-niche: An extremely narrow and specialized segment within a micro-niche. For example: Niche: Beauty Macro-niche: Skincare Micro-niche: Local brand skincare Nano-niche: Local brand skincare products for dry or sensitive skin. This approach helps your business stand out, creating a dedicated customer base in a crowded market.

When it comes to content or copywriting, picking a niche is useless when you're competing with the whole world. There's just too many other people and always someone cheaper. Prominence, recognition, and validation are the only way to really stand out — so work on you.

As a freelancer, a portfolio is a must. There are two ways I use to showcase my best work: offline and online portfolios. I create a PDF document for my offline portfolios to share with my client, which includes my previous projects as well as a brief introduction of myself and my services. For my online portfolio, I use my LinkedIn profile to showcase my skills and share knowledge in my field.

In case you're just getting started, you might not have anything to showcase in your portfolio. In this case, you can create some sample work and then add it to your portfolio as a sample. For example: If your chosen field is copywriting, you can create demo landing pages, email copies, and ad copies and add them to your portfolio. It is a great way to start your freelancing journey. It is equally beneficial for other fields as well such as Content Writing, Graphic Designing, or Social Media Management. Also, you can make LinkedIn your online portfolio. Share your knowledge on the platform. It will make you visible in front of recruiters and your potential clients.

I use LinkedIn to share information and links to my work. I’ve gotten multiple clients from sharing examples of the blog posts and articles I wrote.

When you were working as a freelancer, there is nothing more vital than having a quick and easy reference to the work that you do for the clients to review. I use Linktree as my portfolio, but I customize it to allow an overview of what I do on many different levels. The best of my work is featured prominently, this is essential. The most important asset you’re going to market is yourself.

While I feel strongly about technology fasting (go read a book or go on a hike!) and taking regular breaks from engaging with social media, the various platforms are a great way to show off your work and examples of you being "on the job" in the midst of major projects and creative efforts. Know the platform guidelines for posting too. LinkedIn is business oriented for networking, lead generation and job seeking - no cat photos! You can highlight your skills and market your expertise. Facebook is still very popular with a wider demographic and can be family-focused or business-minded. X is short - 280 character limit and has a wide range of users. Instagram is mostly visually focused, younger audiences - GenZ, Influencer culture.

Social media can be a great tool provided you're clear on why you're using it - some questions to think about ibckude: - What's the purpose of your posting? - Is your content focused or reactive? - Who is the audience you're posting to and what kind of content do they usually engage with?

Building a social brand has become more meaningful than ever this year. The ability to create social proof that you are good at what you do will level up your ability to network and gain those higher paid jobs. Think of it as a portfolio on steroids, as any potential client can see; your experience, what you enjoy working on, tips you have offered to others, and contact you within two clicks. Networking with people in your field is a major plus as well. It allows you to develop your techniques alongside industry pros as well as offer your own advice to others.

I have leveraged LinkedIn heavily after just one year of daily content creation and build trust with my audience. They follow my golf career as well as my business ventures because through my content I remain transparent everyday. Here’s an example of how LinkedIn has been a major blessing, I was forced to cancel a paying gig due to a sinus infection. The more you think about creating the best blog the more you improve yourself by time.???? After that you will yourself find the way to do good in writing and attracting eyeballs. Blogging is the best way to start off.?

When teaching about blogs at the university level, I found that the GenZ culture is not so interested in that format. They are all about podcasts! The blog tends to be the written online version of a podcast, communicating through writing and images in a "reading the storytelling" format with info, photos and links. Podcasting is much more poplar today for communicating any topics through discussions and verbal positing. Podcasts can range from 5 minutes to 90 minutes depending on the host, format and topics. They've become like audio documentaries or rooms for topical discussions. I use podcasts regularly in the invisible disability community to talk with experts and offer healthy living options and examples from doctors and experts.

A blog helps with online presence and positioning as an expert on a topic (provided your blog is about your expertise) but it is unlikely to be effective in isolation. A blog supports a wider strategy. By having a blog, you can bring your name, credentials and expertise up more in search results which will help expose you to a wider audience, but the blog must be maintained and up-to-date otherwise it loses impact.

Throughout my journey as a freelancer, I feel networking is the most helpful thing for me. I establish and nurture good relationships with some agencies or brands. I present my skills, expertise, and value (professionalism, punctuality, clear communications, to name a few) to them. By maintaining good relationships, they will feel the proximity with you and most likely will choose you to be involved on their projects.

Networking is the key! We can always leverage this part to make ourselves visible in front of our target audience. For example- If I’ve only 1000 followers but 100 of them start knowing me due to my strategic and genuine engagement and Connection building with them and they start engaging with my content, sharing my content? Are they not already supporting me just due to connections? Now if they think that I am adding some value in their lives with my content, so whenever they will face some problems in the same field, will they not come to me and ask for some help? Will there not be an opportunity? Just due to connection building? Because we don’t ask for help with strangers, do you? Even if you do, I’m sure, not often. Right?

To network with others means to connect and interact with individuals who share similar goals, values, or interests. This can involve building relationships, exchanging ideas, gaining new perspectives, and providing support to one another in pursuit of personal or professional development. Networking allows for the creation of a supportive community that encourages growth, learning, and accountability.

I believe in the power of Content, In this digital age if you are creating content, Your content will serve as your marketing agent 24 hours.

Testimonials are best way to judge someone online, before giving them work to do.? But if creators starts giving discount and money in order to make their clients to say something good about them in their testimonials, then I guess it is really bad way of attracting audience.? I mean, why one should use money to frame them the way they want the world to see.?? It is not good for both creators and clients as truth always revealed at some point and faking your identity to gain some viewers and works is just a tacky things one will do.? Testimonials are the proof and let not the proof being dirty.? Yes, you can ask clients to write a good testimonials for you after the completion of the work?. But I disagree with offering money or discounts.

I’ve built my freelance writing business on referrals. It’s the easiest and most effective form of advertising. Happy clients refer other clients.

You can never have too many letters of recommendation or clients talking online about your good work. It does not always come organically, so don't be afraid to ask clients who like your work to write you a letter of recommendation or give you kudos online through LinkedIn. I do find that I'm usually working so hard that my online profiles suffer in promoting myself. Take the time to build you personal brand and continue to feed that so people can see what you're doing. I'm not talking about getting "likes" or "shares" here (although those can certainly help lift your status and value in social media circles) as much as I am about keeping current with showing off your work.

The best way to market yourself is to build a professional online presence, optimize profiles on freelancing platforms, specialize and showcase expertise, create a strong portfolio, network, utilize social media, offer free resources, ask for testimonials, set competitive rates, and maintain responsiveness and professionalism. Consistent effort and quality work contribute to a successful freelancing career.

Interacting with people in the industries and fields you write in is essential. Comment on their LinkedIn posts, consider attending relevant conferences and events, and do research on where else you can network with them.

Don’t sleep on word of mouth referrals. I had a freelancer who did such amazing work for me that I recommended her to 3 other companies. Doing great work usually leads to more work!

It rarely has anything to do with how talented you are. Your verbal communication skills when it comes to selling or talking about your creativity is more important now than ever. I have a saying that I have been using for years and it goes like this. “People buy art with their ears, not their eyes.” And it’s become more true today. Learn to become your own best advocate. Learn how to create value in the work you create, by the word you use to describe It. It’s not like the mid century artists who could name a painting with a number and let the art critics do the selling for them. Read books on selling.

Don’t forget to be you. As a freelancer you aren’t bound to company, guidelines or procedures. This can allow your personality and professionalism to shine as you are the brand. Be a great communicator and be better listener.
