Genres are interchangeable. Choosing one particular genre as the over arching space is key, but it doesn’t limit your ability to use elements of others. Understanding this and being able to use the skill set is key and creating projects that are resonating and feel fresh.

The best term used in this is search for a "common ground". There should be a relatability between your market (your product basically) and your audience. When the audience see something common, they automatically relate and connect to it
